Anyone rented a car with a debit card? Im worried that they are gonna tie up money on it.. Has this happened to anyone?? We are only renting for a day.. When we first get there cause we have to head to Kissimmee.. If anyone has any input on this it would be greatly appreciated..

They do hold so much on your account. I think when I rented a car and payed with my debit card, they held $200. And I think the day after I returned the car, the money was back on my account.

But this was what happened to me. Someone else may have had a different experience, maybe worse than mine.

Alamo and National will allow you to rent with a debit card AND proof of return, i.e. that you're not a local resident. A round trip plane ticket in the renter's name generally works. If they hold anything (and this is ENTIRELY reasonable) it would be the projected price of the actual rental.

I would NEVER rent a car with a debit card. You can read of stories of damaged cars and auto deductions from Credit Cards, imagine if this happened with a Debit Card.

I rented a car once when I was younger with a debit card and they told me there would put a $300 hold on funds in my account for the duration of the rental. So if you're tight on funds, this may cause you issues. I would call the reservations department and ask if this might affect your spending plans.
