Hi! We just returned from Ohio where our car broke down twice. DH, now gun shy, thinks if we drive to WDW, we should rent a vehicle instead of using our own. Your thoughts? Your experience? THANKS S

It might be cheaper to fly. Van rentals can be very expensive. Some companies will not allow you to take the vehicle across the border, others will charge a surcharge.

That's a VERY long drive, you also have to factor in the cost of extra hotel nights and meals. You can not safely make that trip without stopping for a sleep period (I don't mean grabbing a few zzz's in a rest area.) Depending on where you are in Canada, look into WestJet, they partner with JetBlue in the US, and I've seen some fairly attractive rates there.

We're going to WDW in December, and are doing the same thing. I already made arrangements to rent a Chevy Venture (or similar) from a local Avis counter (right outside Philadelphia) and we're driving it to Disney instead of our own vehicle.

I, too, do not want to deal with the wear-n-tear on our own car, since it's already 5 years old.

By renting through Avis, I found that I can drive the car anywhere within the continental US with unlimited mileage.

The total cost for 11 1/2 days is $560.00. Since 4 adults will be splitting the cost, it's clearly cheaper than flying. Even when you factor in the cost of the motel for one night, it's still saving money. Besides, I'm a chicken when it comes to flying, so it wasn't even an option for me :(
