Does $50 sound right? That seems a little outrageous to me.

Has anyone done this in the past?

We are in an unusual situation, we have a DD 2 who is in a regular car seat, and DS 5 months who can use the infant seat or a regular, however our infant car seat broke enough that we only use it to transport from the car into a store, etc., we do not use it for safety in the car. (We can still buckle it, we just aren't sure it would withstand a crash).

But for $50, we'll lug 2 full-size car seats through the airport!

TIA!

Susan

The usual charge is about $7-10/day for a seat. Be aware that rental carseats are often rather worn and dirty. The seats are usually convertibles; the Cosco Touriva is by far the most commonly used by rental companies.

Nat'l at MCO keeps the seats at the garage gate booth; you can either walk over and get one before getting in the car, or hold the baby until you get through the gate, then pull over and install the seat.

Do you know anyone with a toddler who might have an infant seat in storage that they could lend you for the trip? Almost everyone I know with an older baby still has the little seat somewhere in the house. The odds are that even a somewhat older privately-owned seat is going to be in better shape than a rental.

Also, have you called the mfr. of your broken seat? It's very probable that if you send them the broken one, they will replace it free of charge, unless the break was clearly your fault, like from running over it or something strange like that.
