We are looking at renting 2 full size cars for 7 people b/c it's cheaper than renting the premium SUV. Our friends are from England and they don't drive while they are visiting with us in Florida but I'm thinking of renting the 2 vehicles under my name, I'll drive one and my DH will drive the other. Budget doesn't charge for an additional driver if it's a spouse. Can I actually rent two vehicles in my name? This may seem like a stupid question but I've never actually done it so I don't know!! Would hate to get to the counter and find out then that it can't be done :goodvibes . TIA

Rent one in your name and another in your spouse's name. might strongly consider using PAY FIRST. Several days before pickup, call the LOCATION and have them confirm there are two vehicles (one under each name) and note in the record that it is NOT a duplicate entry but instead a true second rental.

Thanks for replying to my post :). I was going to do that but I thought that the person booking the rental had to have the credit card in their name. I have the credit card in my name, my DH doesn't, that is why I rented both in my name and because Budget has the "no additional driver fee" for spouses he would be driving one of the cars and I would be driving the other. Do you think this would still work?

The issue with two reservations under the same name is that the computer system may cancel one of them, thinking its a duplicate (especially if EVERYTHING except the reservation number is identical- name, address, credit card, vehicle type, ). You really want for the records to be different and for it to be noted in the record so that one reservation doesn't inadvertently get cancelled.

I rented through car rental savers.com. you think I can call Budget and give them my reservation #'s and maybe they can make a notation on each reservation, that might work for one of them not being cancelled?

Except that your husband really isn't an "additional driver"...he's going to be a primary driver of one of the two cars.

If him not having a credit card in his own name is the issue, consider making your account joint and having a card issued in his name. The charges will then be made to the same account you intend them to be on, but he'll have a card with his name on it to prevent any problems.

DON'T DO IT unless you plan on driving one car and your spouse the other. You're going to have insurance issues (your auto policy, credit card coverage and even the rental agencies waivers) if an additional driver who's not authorized drives the car. I have no idea how much of a hastle it would be to add an additional driver who's not a citizen.

Better they reserve the car. Post in the UK forum. There are deals which include the insurance and tank of gas.

Oh, I understand what you're saying. You're right, he will be the primary driver...I never really thought about that...thanks!

My husband will be driving the other car, not our friends from the UK. Are you saying that our friends should actually rent the second car and add my DH who is a US citizen as the additional driver?

Rent based on who'll be driving the car. Your friends from the UK should rent if they'll be driving the second car. You and your spouse should be renting the cars if you'll each be driving a car. Sorry, I missed the line in your OP where you said your friends don't drive while they're in the United States.

No, it probably won't work...

Option two is to rent one car from one agency and another from a second agency. However, you do have to realize that by making DH the "primary" driver you are kind of "outside" the rules and accept that risk.

[snip]

I don't think that it matters whether the driver is the "primary" driver or an authorized "additional" driver. Both are authorized to drive each car. We usually rent a car in my name but my DH, as an authorized "additional" driver, drives it out of the lot.

I agree it is more likely that the agency will accidently cancel one reservation because they think a duplicate reservaiton was made. Why not call the agency and ask how to handle the issue? -- Suzanne
