That's me as the renter/guest. We went through David's Vacation Club Rentals, and have a week booked at the Grand Californian-- so excited!!! But...

I was disappointed that at the moment one cannot register online at GC. I tried to call guest services, bracing to see how I'd be treated since I wasn't the owner. After trying to confirm the reservation number and telling them I was the guest, her tone instantly turned sullen. She muttered something about "violation of terms" and "can't rent for profit", then ended the phone call right there. Never confirmed the reservation for us non-owners.

After calling David's, at least they sent a screenshot of the reservation, the reservation number, and our names (as guests of course).

Still a newb to DVC renting and still might be a DVC buyer, but based on my interaction with DVD Member Services, I'm nervous about how we'll be treated as a renter and not an owner, especially when we go to GC to actually check in.

First it's not surprising since MS will not speak to non owners so expecting more was not correct and was only going to be a disappointment.

However, the CM you spoke to was incorrect about renting as it is allowed in the POS although commercial renting is not allowed so if you mentioned David being the broker that may have elicited the remark about renting for profit. Still not correct but oh well.

However in the end you will be treated perfectly fine at VGC and I would not spend any time worrying about it and focus on planning for the trip! :thumbsup2

What were your expectations in calling Guest Services?

Do you fully understand that the reservation "you" have isn't really yours? If you had a cash reservation at the GC and invited me to stay with you, I would not be able to get any information regarding the reservation if I called the hotel, right? It's not my reservation. Same thing in your situation. It's not your reservation.

I own DVC. If I call up regarding my current reservations, I can find out anything and everything and make any changes I want. You are basically staying on someone else's reservation. They legally should not give you any information. It's not your reservation. Muchless if you wanted to change anything. This is something that you need to be sure you understand (and are okay with) if/when renting a reservation.

Gee, the OP just shared their feelings, weren't rude about it, and do seem to understand renting. No reason to be so harsh.

I'm not sure if that was directed at me, but if it was, I apologize if I came across as harsh without tone of voice. It was not my intention. The OP stated being nervous about how they would be treated as a renter and not an owner. They also seemed unhappy that they could not receive information directly when phoning. I was trying to make sure s/he understood why that might have occurred. My intent was to explain his/her experience.

It will fine. There is no online check-in for VGC. I was there last week and requested five room numbers that overlook the park and got one of them. We did have to wait until 4:45 for it to be ready. I went to the front desk a couple of times - 4:00 and 4:30. At 4:30 the cm went into the back room to find out what was going on and said it would be ready in a few minutes but gave us a fastpass that could be used for anything except World of Color or Radiator Springs. We used it for Toy Story Mania which had a 45 min wait that night. Before I left the front desk, the cm checked again and said it was ready!

I have a reservation in January and would love a room overlooking the park! What kind of room was it? We have a studio booked. Do you just ask for those rooms at check in? What numbers should I ask for?. Thanks

Just call the hotel directly. We had rented from Vero and although MS wouldn't verify our reservation the hotel had no problem looking up out names and verifying.

Thanks for the reassurances.

I was putting to much info in my OP. I meant to ask: as a non-owner, is there a way to confirm the reservation, besides contacting Dave's? All I wanted was to confirm it when I called Guest Services.

Do you have an account on www.MyDisneyExperience.com ? If so, you should be able to link the reservation (I'm assuming you have the DVC reservation number from David's) and see it there.

If not, try www.mydisneyreservation.com/dvc Scroll down and select the link for a DVC reservation. Then fill in the requested info and you should be good. You need the confirmation number, resort, lead guest's last name and the check in date. (I just tried this with one of my future reservations and it worked just fine).

FWIW, we have never had a report of any problems with a rental done through David's - he is very protective of his reputation and very good at resolving any concern or issue a renter may be experiencing. I'm sure everything will turn out just fine. :)

Member Services has told members not to fax or call the hotel.

Mine was a 1 bedroom. I requested 6502, 5502, 4502, 5508, 4508. Got 4502. I had read that requesting room numbers was better than just saying "park view" and that is true. Last time I just said "park view" and we faced the rapid ride, mostly trees.

There is a list on the large VGC thread.

6504, 5504, 4504 would be the best for studios.

There's also a room view thread:

I e-mailed member services about a month before. I would not wait for check-in, rooms are usually pre-assigned.

David's is an excellent company and if they have sent you a reservation number and a screenshot with the confirmation you are fine. I've used them before and they were fabulous!

As the OP stated go to My Disney Experience and link in the reservation number - it should come up. Mine did when I rented from David's.

Stop worrying and start planning!!! CG!!! That will be awesome!!!

MyDisneyExperience will work for a DL reservation but not the mydisneyreservation.com.

Ah. I don't know the answer to that question. I hope you have a great vacation!

Thanks Kat! After going to the website, the reservation number worked. I got the straight-from-Disney confirmation I was looking for!

Thanks to everyone else for helping me get over this reservation hump. Counting down to the trip now ... :wave2:

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer. Would you have the email address for this? I cam't find it on the DVC website. Thanks again:thumbsup2

Hit "help & contact" at the top of the member website after logging in. Then click the envelope on the next screen. All of your member info will fill in.

This is so great - I was just able to link our rented HHI reservation for next summer :cool1:. Just a great example of what can be learned from reading these threads. :cheer2: I was also able to make edits to the people's names. I wonder if the name corrections actually transferred to the reservation or are they just on MDE?
