"All Cast Members living in our complexes are strongly encouraged to secure renter's insurance. The College Housing Department can point you in the right direction, or you can check with your parents' homeowner's insurance if applicable.
Apartment management assumes no liability in the event of fire, water/flood damage, theft or damage to any belongings of Cast Members who live in our complexes."

Previous CPs, did you have to deal with this renter's insurance policy? If you did wind up getting it, how much did it typically cost? Were you allowed to live there without it?

Just curious and figured there's someone out there who has an answer... Please share your experiences with this?

It's "recommended", however I don't know anyone who has ever gotten it.

I didn't.

They probably just don't want to be sued if anything happens. When I told my mom they mentioned this, she said that I would be covered anyway through our homeowners.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not a requirement, and I'm sure it isn't cheap.

Renters insurance for me in Iowa was $128 per year. However, when I did the CP I didn't take out a policy because the only thing I had of any value was my laptop.

Just weigh out the risks. Is it worth it to you?

Here at home, it is worth it because I have an apartment full of furniture, appliances, text books, etc. At Disney it wouldn't be. None of the furniture or appliances are mine. I won't have anything of too much value to lose.

Renters Insurance is pretty cheap, only like 11 dollars a month.

Definitely check with your parents' homeowners as it truly may not be necessary.

My daughter is a freshman away from home this year and I'd planned on getting a renter's policy for her, as its recommended by the college. When I contacted my insurance company they told me she was automatically covered for up to 10% of the value we have on our home contents, MORE than enough to cover anything and everything she is taking.

The only extra we looked in to and added on was a computer rider, which covers all computers here at home and hers at school...for ANYTHING, including accidental damage not covered by her AppleCare warranty. $8 per YEAR to cover up to $3,500.
