It does happen. I was at BW concierge desk getting an ADR, and next to me, a person was quite upset. He rented from a DVC member, upfront about that, but wanted a Boardwalk View, not Pool/garden view as was booked. He told the CM that the member said it would be just a matter of switching at the resort because they were the same number of points. "So the owner lied to me" is what he said as he left. He did find out that the reservation was in his name, and all 3 of them were on the reservation.

Sometimes things aren't made as clear as they should be.

Just because someone owns points, it doesn't make them a great landlord.

:earsboy: Bill

It is also plausible the owner did it before, and didn't know it was not usually an option. ..

possible just lied to them too.. but they are in DW, and at least they had a ressie. ... could have been much worse..

it sounds like "this" was planned...so are you sure they were not
trying to do the scamming? :rolleyes1

too bad we can't "hear" from the owners.

just saying , the ways the renting trends are going , the more repeaters-
will increase the odds.

Whenever i've rented out points, and it's only been a few times i've always e-mailed the reservation to the renter right after i've received it. That way there's plenty of time to resolve any issues ahead of time.

Someone's not forthcoming here.

I do the same ... plus write it into the contract. I don't want there to be any confusion on anyone's part. It's best to explain everything up front. I'm thinking one of two things happened on this ... the owner didn't make clear to the renter what the situation was with BW vs. Garden/Pool views, or the renter took it upon themselves to try to orchestrate that.

Sounds like the DVC owner had wrong info. Anyone renting would sent the reservation and any renter should require the reservation from Disney showing the info. We rent and have stayed at all the resorts at Disney and have family that have stayed at all the resorts outside of Florida. We feel good about the info for the guest who rent from us to be able to give much info for them to make up their mind on a resort.

And sometimes people try to pressure the front desk personnel into giving them something better than what they actually rented.

It's amazing what a little drama in a crowded lobby can accomplish sometimes. How often have we seen DVC owners pull stunts like this?

In this case, it would have been "no harm - no foul" to request the change because the points cost is the same. There's nothing wrong with the guest asking if BW view was available.

My guess is the renter knew exactly what they had, but were just trying to push the envelope a little.

Like the the couple I saw at the front desk at WL that was insisting that because VWL was their home resort, they should be able to walk up and get a villa at VWL anytime they wanted to? I'm not sure how they made the math work out on that one, given the number of VWL villas vs the number of DVC members..... :rotfl:

It sounds to me like there was a combination of miscommunication between the renter and the owner, and possibly a lack of knowledge on the part of the owner.

Member Services is frequently criticized for not being properly trained and giving inconsistent information. One down side of renting is that you’re probably dealing with individuals with even less training and understanding of the system -- owners.

How does one conclude that the renter was scamming or scammed from the information provided? Yes I know people try many things but on the information provided the only conclusion I can make is how jaded and cynical some comments are.

Yep, I once saw an owner throwing a fit at the OKW check in counter that was embarrassing. All over "They always give me room # ..." :sad2:
