Is there any protection for DVC members who rent their points against damage to the unit, either accidental or intentional, caused by the rentors? Is the Rentor or the DVC member financially responsible for damages? Can the member require a deposit for potential damages? Is there some way the member can check the renters' background to see if they have rented before, and if they have been respectful renters?

The registered guest would be responsible for damage done to a villa - however, if Disney is unable to recover from the guest they will then simply attach the member's account.

We have had instances reported on this board (very few) where that has been the case although those were cases where room charges went unpaid and the member was not allowed to make any reservations until the charges were cleared up.

As the renting member, you are welcome to ask for references, require a deposit or use any other means you feel necessary. However, you should realize that since there have been so few cases like this in the past 20 years, you may place yourself at a disadvantage if your rental requirements are viewed as too stringent. Many renters will just move on to the next member.

Good luck with your decision.
