Rented pt. use at non-DVC resorts?

I think I might have misunderstood how the DVC pt. system works exactly. I want to rent pts. for 11/24-12/3 and posted a request a couple of days ago. Someone responded to my post and checked for me, and he informed me that DVC members were not able to make reservations at resorts other than DVC resorts. For example, we wanted to stay at the Beach Club or Wilderness Lodge and he said it would have to be at the villas and nothing was available. I started to get nervous so I called and made reservations at the Wilderness Lodge for 11/24-11/28 and Beach Club for 11/28-12/3. My question is..... why can't I rent pts. for these reservations? Can someone clarify for me???? Thanks, Sandra

Because DVC has villas at the two resorts you mention (BC WL), members are not able to book regular hotel rooms at those resorts (using points). Also, the point cost for staying in a regular hotel room greatly exceeds the points required to stay comparabley at a DVC resort.
