You can't modify the names on a DVC reservation using MDE. The owner would need to contact DVC to changes the names on the reservation.

You will need to contact David and ask him and the owner to change the names on the reservation. That's the problem with "renting points". You have no control over the reservation. Only the member can do anything until the moment you check in.

Just to clarify, so you don't get mad at David's or the DVC Owner, it may be that they CAN'T push back your dates, depending upon the use year of your owners, and if they are using banked points for the reservation.

Has nothing to do with availability. They won't budge to even contact owner to change name on reservation !!!!!!! So I am out $1600!!!!

They told me they had a case where a child of a family died and they still would not change reservation!!!!!!

It only takes a phone call !!!!!!!

I am very upset with them

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming little arrival...

Try to remember, David's is dealing with lots of owners and lots of renters and lots of reservation so while it seems like no big deal, in the scheme of things, it could be if they were constantly having to get involved with changes, etc.

I realize it is frustrating but unfortunately, for the savings you get with renting a reservation from a private owner vs. reserving through Disney, it comes with drawbacks like this.

I have only rented my points out, not through them, but I feel like they were pretty clear about no cancellations or changes. I would think they have learned to be very firm on that because once you start making exceptions, it's a slippery slope. I'm sorry you can't go, but a baby is very exciting. Congrats!

I think it's really unfair to be mad at the company when all the terms are spelled out clearly up front. This is not the first post I've seen over the years with a similar complaint and it seems like some people think that the contract terms don't really mean what they say. Of course, I negotiate and manage contracts for a living, so I may have a different spin on things. But regardless, it's not reasonable to be mad at the company.

Interesting. I have only rented my points out, and I would have no problem swapping a name out (not much effort) but trying to find alternate days could get dicey. I am pretty sure that the intermediary agreement or the rental agreement specifies that I as the owner will not contact the renter directly, but I didn't see the clause in a quick skim. It is very clear that if I do something to make the reservation invalid, I am on the hook including additional incurred costs.

Seems like David's could be missing an opportunity here. They make their margin on about $3 per point. I wonder if they could offer some sort of change request fee based on the number of points. They could collect an additional $3 per point and offer the owner an additional $1 per pt to make the change.

What are you willing to offer them to make it worth their time?

There's no reason to be upset if that's their terms and they were clearly spelled out up front. However, you might be able to get in touch with the owner directly yourself and see if you can work out something. I guess the other part of the question is what you could do even if they were willing to make changes. Would/could you travel a month or 2 earlier? Would you travel a month or 2 later with a newborn/infant? My guess is that even if they were willing to work with you, it wouldn't work out unless you were willing to travel close to the date selected. I did review their sample contract and there appears to be no block to you subletting the reservation or changing/adding names. When I rent, I too have a none refundable clause but I would be willing to adjust the reservation assuming the points in question would allow it and the person renting had acted appropriately and in good faith prior. The other thing I've done once was rerent the reservation and simply charge the person trying to cancel the difference plus a modest admin fee.

36 weeks is a great time to go! Why wouldn't you? Most doctors think travel until 38w is fine. Especially if you have other kiddos (or if it's your first) a late trip before babe can be a great family time. It shouldn't be hot. Go! Enjoy yourself!

I believe if flying there is a cut off point where the airlines and doctors prefer you do not fly. 36 weeks is a little risky as in the baby could come early. You could talk to your doctor about traveling at that time and if you do you may need an alternative method to return home in case you deliver while in Disney. I have traveled to Disney at 32 weeks twice and all was fine but 4 weeks makes a big difference.

While not what I do, my understanding is this. Assuming no medical problems, no previous problems with pregnancy and delivery and no current or part history of premature labor; 36 weeks (or 28-30 days before due date) are the usual times recommended to not travel at all (not just air travel). Definitely check with your OB as to their concerns. From an airline standpoint it varies. Most adhere to something akin to the timing I stated above. Some require a physicians clearance after a certain gestation and if they do, it usually has to be done within 1-3 days of the actual flight (even the return one). From a practical standpoint it increased the risk, most don't want to deliver away from home and heaven forbid they do and there's an issue such as a NICU stay.

forget about trying to cancel or change the reservation, I recommend that you simply try to sell your reservation. Maybe you can do it on this site or there are other sites that you can post it or even ebay. I just sold a reservation that I had for more than david sells the points for because it was at a hard to book time.

She cannot sell her reservation as the renter without the agreement of the owner/booking company.

Were you able to get the name changed on the reservation? If not, the buyer is going to have a problem at check-in when the CM checks ID.

My care provider had no issue with a trip at 36w. Average 1st babes come at 40+10. Airlines allow flying to 38w. I confess to being a nonhysteric person though. :) Do whatever you are comfortable with but asking your provider's thoughts seems like a no-brainer to me. Especially, if the alternative is losing the money and the vacation.

It would restrict your choices if you're flying. I'm also pretty sure that travel insurance would not cover such a situation.

Nope, an inaccurate internet post does not restrict my choices when flying. Just because someone publishes it, does not make it true.

Here's an actual airline's policy. "Advice to Pregnant Passengers
While air travel does not usually cause problems during pregnancy unless delivery is expected within 14 days or less, in some cases, traveling by air has been known to cause complications or premature labor. Female Customers at any stage of pregnancy should consult with their physicians prior to air travel. Southwest Airlines recommends against air travel beginning at the 38th week of pregnancy. Depending on their physical condition, strength, and agility, pregnant women may, in some cases, be asked not to sit in the emergency exit row."

You'll recall Dean that my suggestion was to speak to her provider. Too many people get internet advice instead of actual professional advice these days. Perhaps the teeth gnashing and worry the OP expressed is unnecessary? Or perhaps it is the least of her worries concerning her situation. That is between her and her provider. Just as it is between me and mine.

My inference based on the aforementioned teeth gnashing/worry of the reservation was that she didn't have trip insurance prior to her positive result. If she did, pregnancy is not a refundable cancellation reason for almost all trip insurance policies and if she didn't it is a pre-existing condition and therefore not coverable.

But, again my comment was to speak with her provider. As I am not going to
back down from this extrememly reasonable position and clearly you have some issue with women not staying in the kitchen while pregnant, I am going to wish the OP a terrific 40+ weeks and exit.

Wow, this is obviously a hot topic for you. My post was for informational purposes, not to be judgmental. When I said restrict choices, I was referring to the fact that there were limitations with some airlines. I have no problems with people safely traveling, I encourage it all the time of all gender's, ages, etc. However, I do want them to travel safely and as stress free as possible and my professional view is that to travel far from home past 36 weeks is a risk though it's one that may vary with the situation from minimal to very high. It's also a risk to have everything set up and then not be able to travel and lose points, air, etc. I think routine air travel up to 38 weeks is an outlying position but I'll query my OB friends when I seem them this week to get their opinion.

Under's Southwest's recommendations you would need to complete travel by 38 weeks.

Here is American's Policy
Domestic Travel (Not Including Travel Over Water)
For domestic flights under five hours, travel is not permitted within seven days before and after your delivery date. If you should need to travel within seven days before or after delivery, a medical certificate is required as well as clearance from our Special Assistance Coordinators.

International/Over Water Travel
For international travel or any flights over the water, travel is not advised within 30 days of the due date, unless you are examined by an obstetrician within 48 hours of outbound departure and certified in writing as medically stable for flight. Travel within 10 days of the due date for International travel must have clearance from our Special Assistance Coordinators. Travel within 7 days after delivery requires clearance as well.

For more information, please contact a Special Assistance Coordinator through AA Reservations at 800-433-7300.
Delta's
Delta does not impose restrictions on flying for pregnant women, so a medical certificate is not required to travel. Keep in mind, however, that ticket change fees and penalties cannot be waived for pregnancy. If you're traveling after your eight month, it's a good idea to check with your doctor to be sure travel is not restricted.
United's
Any woman in the first eight months of pregnancy will be allowed to travel on a United flight without medical documentation.

A woman traveling during her ninth month of pregnancy must have the original and two copies of an obstetrician’s certificate, which must be dated within three days (72 hours) prior to her flight departure. To best assure the pregnant traveler’s safety, it is preferable to have a certificate dated within one day of flight departure.

The certificate must state that the obstetrician has examined the customer and found her to be physically fit for air travel between the specified dates. The estimated birth date of the baby must be after the date of the last flight on the itinerary.

The customer should provide the original certificate to a United Representative at check-in. The remaining copies are for reference during air travel.
