Ok, here's the story...

I was at a dinner party Saturday night and the conversation turned to Disney as one of the guests had just returned. Most at the table knew that I am a DVC owner. The person speaking stayed at Coronado Springs and said she had a wonderful time...the only thing she would do differently next time would be to get a suite of some kind as they really needed more room.

I chimed in and said that I would be happy to help her rent points for a DVC stay.

Then another person chimed in--and I know that she stays at BCV every year though is not an owner--says that she rents every year as it is much cheaper than paying rack rates. So far, so good. We all know this to be true.

She then goes on to say that she just "calls up Disney" and asks if there are any timeshares not being used that she can rent for her vacation dates.

?!?!?!

As I said, this was a dinner party, so it was not the time/place for me to ask her what in the heck she was talking about. What do you mean call up Disney? Who at Disney? Certainly not MS since you are not a member. Then where.

Anyone ever hear anything like this?

You can call CRO and get reservations usually the price is not "cheap" but sometimes they will have rates where Saratoga is featured in the ""best deal" tab.

Let's see, she might know you won't call her out at dinner, you are too polite so she makes something up. Probably jealous that you have points and she doesn't.

Kind of like that ESPN News commercials, that guys that don't watch talk sports "out of their behind" ie don't know what they are talking about.

Funny I probably would hear the samething from the jealous gossipy woman up the street from me.

I have never got the "best deal" tab, I just get the "Disney Recommends" tab for GF!

Right...but she stays at BCV. I've seen her pics, so I know she isn't lying about that.

Hmmmm....the plot thickens!

Hmmmm....maybe, but I don't think so. This woman's family has WAY more $$$ than mine, so she could own DVC if she wanted to. I don't think she's jealous.

I bet she is because you have one upped her or beat her to the punch, you're a DVC member and she's not.

Since she states it is cheaper than rack rate, is it possible she has an AP and uses the AP room discount?

I think what she is doing is paying rack rates for a villa. She calls it "Renting points from Disney". In her mind it is the same. We know different. Why would Disney compete against itself by offering accomodations at a lower price?

I have a friend who wants to buy DVC so bad, much more money than me....The husband says "NO"......they rent each and every year...so just because they have more money doesn't mean the have more sense....

They have rented at Beach club or Boardwalk now for over 5 years.....
They are also going to be a Disney this year for Easter......

That is weird, since both BCV and BWV are hard to get through regular Disney reservations - they are usually pretty booked up!

Perhaps "renting from Disney" (ie. rack rate CRO) is cheaper because she didn't plunk down $15,000-20,000 to own it.
