Rental rates have dropped a bit....

I just checked back on rental rates with National and Avis for 12/6 - 12/15 (9 days) and the rates for both have fallen. Avis is down from $360 for everything to $335. And National has fallen even more from $372 to $281. These are both for full-size cars. National is for Emerald Service. I have Avis Preferred but reserved for counter service with this rental because I also have a free weekend day coupon to add to the Avis rental which will bring it down even more. As most know it really does pay to keep checking every week or so if you have the time. I always keep 2 reservations just in case of a foul up along the way. I do try to cancel one at the airport but I had National pretty much out of everything last fall and was glad that I had the Avis for back-up. Waiting was not an option, unfortunately.

Thanks for the post. We are going 12/2-12/11. I rechecked my national rates; and although the base rate dropped quite a bit (from $211 to $165 for a full size), it no longer gives me both the Disney Club card discount (using the code starting with 5901..) and the coupon code discount (10004...). So, my net savings (but still a savings) is around $5.

I called National, but they were no help; and indicated that the new rate of $165 just had the discount rolled into it??

Were you able to get both codes to work?

We are not DC members. This was just the rate I got with my membership in the Emerald Club thru "Bestfares" magazine several years ago. Have a great trip!

You got the benefit of both codes. The base rate already includes the DC discount. To prove it to yourself, just try reserving the same thing but leave out the DC contract ID (leave the coupon in, though). You will see a higher base rate.
