Rental qustion please:

We are in the process of becoming members, we are just waiting for the close of our deal, probably a month away. I would like to make reservations for VB from June 3 thru June 8 and was wondering what would be the best way to accomplish this. Is it possible to have an existing member to make the reservation in our name just like you would for a renter and then when our points become available, transfer the reservation to our points. I am concerned that by the time we are eligible to do this, they would be sold out. Could we put in the stipulation that by a certain date, obviously prior to cancellation deadline, that if we don't have our member ship up and running that it would be cancelled. Please help me with any advice you can offer. Thank you so much in advance.

I don't think what you are proposing is possible as you state it, but you might be able to either rent a reservation from a current member or offer to trade reservations with another member. That way, they would make a ressie for you now at VB using their points, and down the line, you would make a ressie for them using your points. I would think you would want that to be someone you knew, since it involves a great deal of trust. Straight out renting of a ressie would be the most "sure thing" way of doing it though.

Thanks for the information, I also thought about that but like you said, it would take allot of trust, especially on the other member since I would be taking my vacation first. Do you know, If I were to rent points as I have done once before, could he transfer the points back after my membership became final. Is there anyway a member would be willing to check on availability of VB for a studio or ocean front room for 6/3 to 6/8 just to see if there is anything even available at this point. Maybe I am worrying about nothing and should focus on later dates. Thanks again

It would be pretty hard to check available units, since that can change from minute to minute.

You would not really be renting any points - you would be renting a reservation made using DVC points. That reservation would be under the control of the member who owns the contract and there is no way to "transfer" a reservation to another account.

As Diane suggested, your options are to try to either rent a reservation from another member or wait until you have closed to make the reservation yourself. If you can find a member to work with, you might be able to "pay" for the reservation with the promise of a transfer once you have closed or just pay cash and rent your points to reimburse yourself.

Thanks Diane and webmaster doc for the advice, it has helped a great deal. I guess I need to post on the other forum to try to buy some points from a member. I did that in December and it worked great, unfortunately the gentleman is in the process of selling his membership. Thanks again and wish us luck, my daughter really wants to go to the beach, not much ocean front property in Iowa. Thanks again
