Hi – I am new to posting (first post) but I have used this site quite a bit for research. I am planning a family trip for the end of November. Since it appears I cannot count on any discounts, I have been looking into renting DVC points.

Now, although everything seems to be booked up, there are posts on the DVC topic area from members who make a business out of buying up a bunch of points from other members then use those points to make blocks of reservations at peak times and then sell the reservations to non members (like me) for a profit either on this site or on eBay. Although many members are against this, it seems to be legal and happens often.

** I posted this thread here because I am not interested in debating whether this is right or wrong with other DVC members and there seems to be a lot of discussion about that over on the DVC topic area.**

My question is that although these “brokers” charge more per point than the typical member, these reservations are still a GREAT deal and I wonder if anyone has ever rented points from these people? Is there anything I should be wary of? I am nervous about the whole DVC point rental in general but it seems like everyone who has done it has had success. What keeps more people from doing this? There must be something I am missing. Any info would be great. Thanks!!

I understand where you're at... First I had to get comfortable with renting, then I had to convince my DMIL. Like buying "refurb" products, you get a great deal, but there's always that chance...

Why doesn't everyone do it? Well, it's OK with me if it stays our little secret pirate: There's a lot of money on the line and both parties have be comfortable and "professional" with it. I'm prepared for something (small) to go "wrong" and not let it ruin my vacation. I have a pretty good understanding of where the responsibilities lie between me, the DVCer and Disney and I think all will be well (otherwise I'll have some explaining to do) :bitelip: And if we were to have to cancel, well, I'm prepared to lose some money.

Actually, Disney is not involved at all in these rentals between members and non-members. If the non-member gets burned by the transactions somehow, they would probably have to go to small claims court for restitution. Usually the member will have a contract of sorts for the non-member to sign. It may stipulate no refunds after a certain date or full payment by a certain date, etc.

It takes a lot of trust on the part of the member and non-member.
