rental question

hi all,

hoping someone can explain the whole rental process to me in english.

i see all these dvc booths around, and not being from america, its just useless for me to sign up, however i know there are lots of places that will rent you a dvc villa or such on behalf of someone who does use it.

my question is this. I i wanted to stay at say animal kingdom villa for 15 nights in october, the wdwinfo calculator tells me its 165 points, what would those points cost in real world dollars?

That depends on who you rent from, and what they set the price at. If you rent from one of the brokers such as Davids or the Timeshare Store, they are usually around $13/point, so a 165 point reservation will run you approximately $2145. A lot of private person to person rentals will run closer to $11 or $12 per point, so closer to $1815.

i did a check and pop century, selected over the all stars for its own buses, would be 2180 for the same amount of time, so i figure staying in a villa would be cheaper.

Given how often you visit Disney, I'm not sure it would be as useless as you think it is. You could buy at the Grand Californian to stay there for your Disneyland visits, then use the points on WDW years out at WDW.

There are plenty of owners from out of the country. It *might* be worth reading up on to get a full understanding of DVC.

Just to say living outside the US is no barrier to owning DVC. We live in the UK and have been owners for over 10 years and have just bought a second contract at VGC

can I ask what you pay a year for dvc? if its around 1000 bucks it could be worth it, living in Australia the big thing is not the hotel its the flights to orlando that cause the pain

Well the answer to that is really along the same lines as 'How long is is a piece of string?', because it depends on how many points you purchase which is dictated by how often you visit, what size accommodation you want to stay in and where you want to stay.

We bought 175 BCV points in 2002 @ $74 per point and have used them most years to stay for 10/12 nights in a studio at our home resort. We have also used them to stay at other resorts. Our annual dues for our BCV contract in 2013 are $978.09.

We consider it to have been money well spent and have just closed on a 75 point contract at VGC and expect to visit every 2/3 years.

I did have a look at the site, and the fees to start make it a no go. if flights to America were cheaper it would be something I might do, but as they usually hover around 1700 to get to orlando from Australia, its not possible. thanks for the info though, all the dvc rental places seem like good deals, so I will just pick the one that will give me the best deal.
