Rental Question

I called DVC to book a vacation in somebody else's name and was asked if I was renting my points. I answered honestly and said yes and the lady told me she could not book it because that is illegal and DVC members are not allowed to rent points.

If that is the case, why are these forums allowed to stay open on the Dis and how can David have a widely publicized business renting points and Disney not shut them down.

Nonsense. The contract specifically allows renting.

Every now and then you get an uninformed CM in MS. Call back, and you'll likely get someone else.

Here is the portion of the Home Resort Rules & Regulations currently posted on the member website that refers to 'Making Reservations for Non-club Members':

3. Making Reservations for Non-Club Members

1. Club Members may use their Home Resort Vacation Points to reserve Vacation Homes that will be occupied by non-Club Members.
2. When a Club Member uses his or her Home Resort Vacation Points to reserve Vacation Homes on behalf of a non-Club Member, and the Club Member does not charge any rental or other fees to the non-Club Member for the reservation, the non-Club Member is eligible for all or some of the Club Member privileges and benefits that a Club Member would normally receive during his or her stay in the reserved Vacation Home. If the non-Club Member is renting, it is the responsibility of the Member to notify Member Services when making the reservation. Member privileges and benefits cannot be extended to non-Club Members who rent Vacation Homes from Club Members.

By now, you've probably called back and all is well.

If this happens in the future, note the CM's name (I always do that first thing when I call MS no matter what the reason for the call may be) and politely ask the CM to either check with a Supervisor or transfer you to a Supervisor. You'll get this issue resolved more quickly and hopefully get the misinformed CM some additional training so that other members won't encounter the same thing.

Yes, they say that if someone is making around 20 or so each year, it might be seen as a commercial renter.

So the latest is that if you are renting more than 20 times per year, Disney is looking at you as a commercial renter. Note this is not per contract or per use year but per member. They look at it the same if you have one contract at one Resort or 20 at all of the Resorts.

David does not own points and is thus unaffected by this enforcement. He merely arranges rentals between an owner (who is still subject to the 20 rental rule) and a renter. I am sure Disney will find a way to get involved in these transactions also. They do not like competition.

I don't know were the 20 rentals came from. I own 7 contracts and one year har 12 rentals and got a letter from Disney. 1/3 of the rentals were family in married names.
