Rental Payment?

Do you pay for your rental when you book or when you actually pick up the vehicle? Just wondering as I'm going to book and hope the rate goes down.

If you book through National with Emerald Aisle, they don't apply the rental fee to your charge card until you return the car. You can change/modify/or cancel your reservation at any time. If you find a better rate you can make a new reservation and cancel the old one (in that order) or you can just modify the existing reservation I believe. Hope this helps.

I've rented many, many cars over the past 15 years and have NEVER paid in advance (before picking up the car) for a single one of them.

Yes....as the previous poster said....All Rental companies are the same. There is no charge until the rental is over.
You can book...cancel and re-book online as many times as you want (for no charge).
I do this all the time because the prices fluctuate and change so much that i sometimes book and rebook with different companies as many as 10 or more times.
(My last trip ...2 weeks ago ...I did this and the rental price dropped by almost $300 by the time I was finished.

It's been my experience that the rental companies put a $300 hold on your credit card when you show up to actually rent the car (not when you make the reservation), but you're not actually charged that amount at that time.

But the OP was asking whether you pay for the rental at time of booking the rental or if it's at pick up. I and others were letting her know that you do not pay for the rental in advance when you make the reservation.
