We are considering renting a house for our upcoming trip to DLR. This way our group can all stay together and we will have a kitchen to cook some meals at home. Has anyone else ever done this? What was your experience. The two houses we are considering are both about 2 miles away. The owners claim that it is easy to catch a shuttle. Any thought or experiences?? This is our first trip to DLR and I know everyone recommends staying within walking distance.....

destert inn hojos umm camolot inn try a few of those. idk if id rent a house if it was to far away i like to be close

I could see how this would be good for a large family group; but I'd be very careful... there's been a few scary stories on here about people renting and the place turning out to be pretty yucky. If there are pictures, and if you can find the place listed on something like Angie's List or something, with recommendations, maybe it would be worth it?

For myself, the whole shuttle thing might be kind of a pain, especially if you want to take midday breaks. There are some suites with partial kitchens close by. Camelot has one, I think. Many of the hotels have microwaves, and seems like most have small fridges.

You could also look into Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate.

They have 1,2 bedroom suites and family suites. Each unit has a full kitchen. There is also a buffet every morning that is included with the price. It is really yummy! And I believe there are different activities offered almost every night. (one night was like a nacho night if I remember correctly. We only stayed 1 night and we never got there until after 9)
If I remember right there is also a barbaque that you can use if you don't want to use your stove/oven.

HTH!

We rented a house when during our trip to the DLR in March 2008. It was perfect for our needs since we had the grandparents and one kid with us (we needed at least 2 queen beds plus a separate kids room). If you're interested, I can PM you the link. Importantly for me (especially considering my in-laws came with us) the house was impeccably clean and all the appliances and furniture were new or in great shape. The neighborhood seemed safe and was very quiet since the house was at the end of a u-shaped road. I wouldn't hesitate to rent again if we travel with my in-laws again.

When we went back again in May 2008, we stayed at the HoJo's in the king suite. Overall, I think I prefer staying at the HoJo's. Although the house was physically close (2.5 miles to DLR), the whole parking structure/tram shenanigans made us much less likely to return after the kiddo's nap, especially since we could hang out and cook dinner instead of eating out. In fact, we only went back 2 out of the 5 days we stayed down there after her nap time. When we stayed at the HOJO, we went back every night since it was so easy, and we had to go get dinner somewhere (might as well be disneyland). Maybe it would be better if you can catch the shuttle from the house - that would not be an option with this particular house.

I think it depends on your particular agenda. If you intend for a leisurely multi-day trip or plan to visit frequently, the house may be a good option. If you want to go full throttle/commando and need to accomplish a lot of things at the DLR during your trip, I think I'd probably stay at the resort itself or across the street since you'll get much more done.
