rental home spread sheet

Just wondering if any of you are as obsessed with planning your vacation as I am. I have actually made a spread sheet so I can organize my favorite homes as I begin to contact owners.

IS THIS NORMAL?!?! My vacation isn't until August 2004. I'm so crazed that I even did all the research for my neighbors first family trip.

I think it's a combination of being a computer geek (i use to be so cool) and a Disney fanatic.

Someone, please comfort me by telling me I'm not the only one!

I don't think you have a problem, but people make fun of me too. I told my husband in March that I did not want go camping this year . I wanted DISNEY. He said if that were to happen we needed a solid plan and budget to get there in 3 months. That was all I needed to become a Disney maniac. I put together a book that put the Passporter to shame. I carried it with me the entire 3 months. I researched EVERYTHING and found great deals. Everyone thought I had lost it. We just got back last week and let me tell you that I came back under budget and we saw everything that we wanted to see AND had a great time. My husband loved not having to stop and think during the vacation. He had been working a ton of hours at work and needed a thought free vacation.
So do think you are overplanning........
IT is part of the fun.

You are crazy, but in a good way. I constantly have friends, relatives, co-workers, and even people I don't know all that well, contacting me to help them plan their Disney vacation. Everyone knows that we are Disney veterans and they look to us for guidance.

I don't obsess too much with planning our own trips because we've done it enough times to know the routine by now. Once we decide what type of accomodations we want (hotel, suite, house), some rate comparisons every week or two to check for specials and we're all set.

I have been since 1991 after my first son was born and didn't plan on going to WDW for another 6 years but , an uncle bought my son some WDW stock and at that time STOCKHOLDERS GOT 50% OFF Resort accomdations so SONNY, MOM and I went to WDW ,where MOM and I honeymooned 1977.

After the WDW Company (Eisner CO.) eliminated the benefit and I had to find that 50% discount some how.

Unfortunely 30% was the only thing I could dig up.
But along the way I developed my skills (like what you are learning ) helped in making up the 20% through discount car, airfare, and other cost cutting which allowed my family to visit WDW 10 times from 1991, considering 4 night min and flying out of the New England Area with a family of four since 1993.

Consider what you are doing a SPORT.

Like a Quaterback, each day is a play from scrimage,
you read the SPECIALS e-mails from the AIRLINE, HOTELS( you want to stay, CAR RANTELS, SPECIAL DEALS BROKERS, and
especially the DISboards ( the home of THE POWER OF THE MESSENGER).
Execute your game plan according to the players on the field which is your cash, credit cards, coupons, travel clubs, BjS , Sams, Costco and ask for help the bench from the DISboards.

Either you score big on the play or huddle up for the next day.

I think I'll be disappointed when the decisions are all made. But 'til then I'll plan like mad! My DD (12) is obsessed as I am. Soon I'll begin "training" her in Disney planning techniques.

Just about an hour earlier I was setting up an Excel sheet to block out the 10 day Christmas trip! I'm obsessing about the PS's because my brother's family from CA is joining us and I want my 9 and 11 nephews to have a great trip. I just wish it wasn't going to be so crowded then. And everyone has pretty much left it up to me. "Whatever you think is ok." That's become too much responsibility--what if they hate 'Ohana? etc. etc.

I'll calm down soon, I'm sure.

dgaston, has your brother's family been to Disney before. If they're Disney fans I'm sure they'll love whatever you plan. Heck, I think I would enjoy a day of collecting garbage if I could do it at Disney.
We took our best friends and their children with us last year for their 1st trip. They had an okay time, but just didn't get it. I don't think it was what I planned, they just were'nt into it. They didn't even want to do World Showcase. They decided to go back to the house after 2 countries!!

Off-topic but a funny story:
When Disneyland celebrated its 35th anniversary in 1990, Kodak gave away a free Disneyland watch if you mailed in some film UPC's. Well, my future wife and I went to WDW for vacation that summer. We spent a fair amount of time pulling film cartons out of the trash cans all through the resort, especially in and around the Kodak camera shops in the parks. Where better to get a huge supply of Kodak UPC's? We ended up getting something like 40 free watches for just the cost of some stamps.

Dear (trash picker) DisneySteve, how romantic. What did you do for your honeymoon? Just teasing. Are you still enjoying your watches? Quality wouldn't matter when you had that many. I'd consider them disposable (or Christmas gifts for everyone on my list)!!!

Yep, I still have a few. Most of them got sold over the years (I've sold Disney collectibles since 1986).

That was my wife's 1st trip to WDW. She ended up marrying me and has now made the pilgramage 14 times, so I guess that didn't turn her off too much.
