Hi, Everyone --

I'm helping a friend plan a trip, and they might want to rent a car, but they don't think they'll need it for the whole trip. They're thinking of using either Mears or a towncar (I'm trying my best to convince them to use the towncar) to get from the airport to their hotel (Contemporary) and then renting a car when they need it. I was reading Birnbaum's guide last night, and it says that you can rent a car at any WDW hotel. How does that work? If you use the front desk of the hotel for the rental, do they just call the Alamo office that's on property, or will they make arrangements with any rental company?

Thanks for the help!!

I was getting ready to post the same question. I was also wondering, if you can rent a car at the resorts, can you make the reservation in advance so you would have an idea of the price?

How long are you staying? A weekly rate may be cheaper than your airport transfers and renting for a few days at the daily rate.

Not sure about DisneyFan0304, but our group will be there for 10 days total. We'll be at Universal for the last 3 days & were considering possibly renting a car for the trip from Disney to Universal. We'll be using a limo service (a van) from the airport to WDW. There are 9 in our group. I'm thinking getting the limo service from WDW to Universal will be the cheapest route, but wanted to be sure I checked out all the options. Thanks for your help:teeth: .

I don't think you can fit 9 people with luggage in a mini-van. If you want a car to do offsite things such as outlet malls you might rent 2 cars to go to Universal otherwise I think a towncar service makes the most sense. Remember the Universal hotels charge for parking.

Yes make a reservation in advance, if you wait until you get there you'll probably pay more. Also a chance they won't have any cars in the size you want.

Thanks LewisC! I think we'll stick with our original town car plan, as we would only really need the rental cars for getting to Universal. We don't plan on going anywhere off site.
