Rental Cars....AGHHHH

Excuse the vent but I am sure that many of you will understand. How is it that I can get a room for 7 nights for a total of 443.00 but to get a decent size car for 4 people it will cost more than the room I have tried to find codes for these but on most car rental websites it comes up " not valid" or " not available" AGHHHHHHH the insanity of it all.

I think the problem is that none of the promo codes or coupons are good beyond Dec 31 2006. I too am trying for a 2007 code and have been unable to find one. Maybe they will be released next month. Until then

Post your dates and pick up and drop off times, and type of car. Lots of people here are good at finding great prices...but cannot do it without that info!

I just checked hotwire for your dates...12/31 - 1/07/07.
Here is what is available:
Midsize 17.95 per day...170.12 for your whole trip including taxes
Standard 18.95 per day...178.32 "
Full Size 20.95 per day...194.61 "

Don't know if this helps or not b/c with Hotwire you have to be sure that you will NOT change your plans. It is NON-changeable, and NON-refundable. You will get Hertz, Avis or Budget. Two are in the airport and one is not but you can take a shuttle to their office. It all depends if you want to take a chance or not.

I had a ressie with Budget for our trip in Jan. fee with Budget was $353.00 even with my labor union discount for 8 days, midsize car. I just canceled that and bought with Hotwire for $212.00 with taxes for a midsize. After I completed the ressie, I wound up back with Budget. Same car, same dates, $123 less.

It all depends upon whether or not you want to take a bit of a chance, or not. Rates change all the time, so if you don't see those rates on hotwire check back.

This is using the AMEX code (5125601) and a two-car upgrade coupon (10009416) which you can access on www.rentalcodes.com This is also contingent on you returning the car at an earlier time than the pick-up time. If you will be returning it later then you will probably be charged for another day.

I just put in 4/5 - 4/14 at clearwater for a 9 day rental on a midsize SUV and the total was 316.77 -when I tried to put in emerald club or the amex code it was a lot higher.

Don't plan on getting an upgrade over Christmas. This is the single busiest time of the year. If you need a full size car you better book it. We travel over Christmas ever year and when you show up on the 31th most people have not started home yet.

Why not try getting the car on January 2, then you will see some better rates.
