If we rent a car at Orlando International Airport....can I return it somewhere in Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral????? Anyone ever do this and if so did you go through Expedia on the computer to do it or through the company directly???? Have never really had to rent a car before as we have allways driven to Florida.

Arriving on Thursday October 14 boarding the ship on Saturday October 16. Any help on this one????

We have used Budget, and Avis & Hertz also have shuttles to the port when you do a one-way rental. We used Thrifty going to Port Everglades and were very pleased with them, but I don't think they have a shuttle to Port Canaveral.

Thrifty has a location at the port that is beyond Budget, but closer than Avis or Hertz. I don't know if they have a shuttle, but I would guess that they probably do.

THE PROBLEM IS...

...this Thrifty location charges a drop-off fee for one-way rentals... typically in the $30-50 range. So I exclude them from my survey mentioned above.

I am also renting a car both ways. We are on the 9/26 wonder sailing. we arrive at MCO on the morning of the 25th and will spend the night in cape canav. I got a deal from Avis one way from mco to cape cana for about $32 for a full size. BUT on the way back (Thurs morn to Sat Night) they wanted $150+ for the 2.5 days! I just booked with National, for $58 (incl taxes). The only thing is I dont think National has a shuttle from the port. Any one have any idea what the cab fare will be to the National office in Cocoa beach?

What happened to the good old days when you could return a car anywhere in Florida and not get charged a one way fee?

$11 if you use Yellow Taxi (321-636-1234.)

That's still true between major markets. But Cape Canaveral is a minor market. Some of the operators there are franchises rather than company-owned (Hertz, by the way, is company-owned.)

We rented from Avis at MCO and dropped off at their Cape
Canaveral office. It was a good experience. They shuttled us to the ship and we did the reverse on return, no waiting. Found them to be friendly and efficient and the car was very clean. Keep paperwork handy as that was our only problem, rate came up differently in their computer and needed my papers to clarify.

Thanks for the drop off fee warning, Dave! After our good experience with Fort Lauderdale, I was considering trying them out if we do a car rental to Port Canaveral in the future. Now they're off our list!
