We will be spending a few days at WDW prior to our cruise and want to rent a car.

Who has cars available at the airport (hate taking a shuttle to the cars) and best rates? Thanks!

We rented from Budget, but I am sure that almost every major rental company has representation at MCO. Not sure which ones are right on airport property.

to clarify - I want a company that I can pick the car up right at the airport. thanks.

I know that National is on airport property. Not sure what their current special is though. I think I read somewhere that Budget is on property also. I hear you about not wanting to take the shuttle...we used National for that reason when we went in 2002. It was so easy. By the time I gathered all the luggage, my husband was back with the car and we were off to WDW!

We just used National. There is more info about it in my trip report. It worked great for us.

I believe that you should check out the information on the "rental car" page of this site:

We have a Budget rental car reserved for the 5 days that we will be at OKW and then drive to the port and drop if off near there, I have read that it is not far. Then we have another rental from Budget for the day we get off of the cruise..our flight doesn't leave until 6:00 pm and I don 't want to waste the day at the airport. Total for an economy car is 173.00.

I had read and researched this option on these boards and it seems quite simple to do....better then wasting money on the rental car being parked as well as the parking fee while we are crusing....gives us more money for little umbrella drinks!

BTW-Budget is at the airport.

You want to ask about one way charges for your rental. IF you pick up at MCO and drop off near the port there may be additional charges for the one way rental. Be sure to ask and you will have less surprises

We are renting a car (Avis) at the airport, keeping it a few days. Then driving it down to Cape Canaveral, dropping it off at the Avis location there. They have shuttle buses that will take you over to the pier about a mile away. The Avis van will pick you up after the cruise as well. There is no charge for the shuttle or for dropping the car off at that location. This will be the second time to do this for us. The Avis Location is 6650N Atlantic Ave. Cape Canaveral 321-783-3643

Thanks for the advice. Just double checked and Budget doesn't have a drop off charge. I got a little concerned after reading your post.

We just came home from the 4/17 Eastern and rented from Budget both at MCO and at Cocoa Beach. It was actually more expensive (around $5) for the car we picked up in Cocoa Beach, than for the one we rented at MCO. Budget is on the airport, across the street from the terminal, in the parking garage. You might want to check www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html for some discount codes.

Thanks for the info! To get to the Budget cars do you have to walk outside or is there the tunnel that goes under the street to the garage? I remember several years ago the walk through the tunnel.

I did try the discounts from the mousesavers site and none of them were cheaper than just booking it directlywith Budget or else the timing of dates wasn't just right.

I also tried booking through hotwire and would have only saved $2 so I just stuck with the reservations on Budget.

Thanks again!

We walked outside (covered crosswalk in case of rain), picked up our keys at the booth and were on our way.

We just rented a car from Budget April 17 and dropped it off at Cocoa the next day. $40 for an intermediate with AAA discount. The return on April 22 for three days was $120. Overall this was a good deal, but there is one more factor to consider -

I have a National card through my work that lets me just walk out to the lot and get any car I want immediately. However, I decided to go with Budget to save a few bucks. I can't remember just how much but it probably wasn't a lot. We got our luggage off the carousel and walked over to the rental car counter areas. I intentionally did NOT book from Alamo because my father and I have had 1 and a half hour waits in line for a car there at MCO before. The Alamo line was it's usual 1 and a half hour long as we walked by it (maybe 100 people waiting for 5 agents), so I was glad I avoided them. The budget line was shorter (30 people), but there were only 3 agent working. I took just over an hour to get a car. I stood in the line thinking "GEE, I would gladly pay the extra few bucks to skip this line, but I didn't bring my National card."

My family was hoping to see the Magic set sail at 5:00 at the port. By the time Budget goofed around at the counter and then goofed around out in the parking deck to get my car, we managed to arrive at the port just in time to see the Magic heading down the channel ahead of us.

Next time, I will have to weigh whether the longer wait is worth a few bucks saved.
