We only have a debit card and need to rent a car in Fl. Anyone have any advice?

I think you will want to check with the company you are considering renting from as different companies will have different policies.

ie: here is enterprises's method of payments, general info..

Credit Card:

Credit cards must be in the renter's name with a set credit limit.

You can secure your deposit with a major credit card and pay with a different form of payment as accepted by the renting location. Please reach to the specific location from which you would like to rent for alternate forms of payment.

Pre-pay credit cards are not accepted at any of our rental locations. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Debit Card:

Some locations will accept a debit card for a rental deposit and/or payments. To be valid, a debit card must have a Visa or Mastercard logo.

Airport locations that are able to accept debit cards will require return trip itineraries.

Most local renters who would like to use a debit card for their deposit may need to complete a cash qualification process. The branch may ask for you to bring in two valid, current utility bills and your most recent paycheck stub.

It is common that a rental branch will require your drivers licence to be issued in the state you are renting.

We are happy to help you with policy information specific to the renting branch. Please contact us ahead of time to determine what is needed when renting with a debit card.

Cash:

For security reasons, our locations do not accept cash. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Traveler's Checks:

Traveler's checks can be used for rentals in the United States and Canada.

We just used our debit card (bearing Mastercard logo) in Boston with Alamo and had no problems. They just needed confirmation of return flight (they looked at our itinerary). They only charged my debit card the reservation cost -- I wasn't sure if they would put a hold above and beyond the rental until it was returned.

I too rented with Alamo, at the Dolphin resort using a debit card. I was charged for the rental amount upon return of the car, no money was held against my account. I had to show my round trip ticket.....

Thanks for sharing- I did reserve with Budget( we need to rent close to Disney with a return at Port Canaveral) and they told me that they do accept debit cards. I did not ask about holds on my account though. Iwill do that now.

I rented through Enterprise, and they held $200. It was returned by the next day. I made sure they told me beforehand that the money held would be "returned" that day or the next.
