Rental car VS Rideshare

We are staying off site and currently booked June 17 to July 4. Our first stay is at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for a week, then Silverlakes Resort (closer to Ak). My mother is joining us, so we are a party of 6 and would require a minivan. Rental would likely be around $600 for our stay plus about $200 in Disney parking. I need to call the resorts to check on parking fees with timeshare bookings. Usually they don't have fees if booked through timeshare, but all resorts are different. So $800 at least, up to $1000 depending on resorts.

It looks like using ride share may cost around $15 each way to the parks, more or less depending on distance. This could cost closer to $500, or potentially half the cost of a rental. How difficult is using Lift\Uber to get around from nearby resorts?

You can get rideshare estimates on RideGuru.

Keep in mind that rideshare capacities are without luggage. XL -- which would be a minivan or SUV -- will carry six people, but not six people with vacation luggage. So for your airport transfers, you would need two vehicles, and maybe two XL vehicles. On RideGuru, use the SUV tab for XL pricing. They may use Lyft Plus, which is an outdated term for XL, but the fares will be the same.

WBC did not used to charge parking for the timeshare portion of the resort -- only the Wyndham Grand Hotel. They also had a park shuttle, but they charged for it by the person and paying Disney parking would probably be cheaper. However, my WBC info is not current, so call them for current OFFICIAL info.

In normal times, there will not be a problem getting an Uber anywhere in the WDW area. However, these are not normal times and some drivers have stopped driving because of coronavirus.

And the other thing you should be concerned about is virus contamination by the stream of riders that car has carried over the last couple of days.

All things considered, in this environment I would definitely rent a car and pay whatever it costs.

My mother is flying in seperately, so a minivan (what we drive at home) should be able to carry us and our bags.
I've done a little research and it seems that it is not too much of a pain to get Uber or Lyft. I'm thinking it may work for us. Last time we were one property and only used Disney transportation, but that was 12 years and 3 kids ago. When we go to Disneyland we typically stay within walking distance. When we've used our timeshare we've used ART, but I think the bus from WBC is more expensive than ART for a week. I've never used and Uber of Lyft, but my husband and mother both have.

Yes. And it's not just whether stuff is open or closed. It's also about what other restrictions are you going to be working under.

Will you be able to enjoy your trip?

Keep checking back on that question, because it's in a state of flux.

In Miami, our first fatality was an Uber driver and that has really hit home with our drivers. Many are quitting or switching to UberEats or other delivery services.

By June, the situation could be much better or much worse, but it will certainly be different than it is today.

I didn't realize that the bus was not included in your room rate.

There was a time when it was "free." But in a timeshare, "free" actually means paid by the owners -- the people who own the timeshare units.

So if you owned a unit, drove to Orlando and stayed there occasionally, you were paying for bus rides for people who were paying other owners to rent their points. You were basically subsidizing somebody else's rental business -- and WBC is a very heavy rental property unless they've changed greatly recently.

So they instituted a pay system, monkeyed with it a few times, and finally settled on $7 per person per round trip. It's been like that for a couple of years.

Ride share all the way! I always stay on property, but ride share is a total lifesaver for breakfast reservations at other resorts!
