Was wondering if anyone has opted to rent a car instead of paying $49 a person for the DCL shuttle. I have looked up prices of oneway car rentals online and have found they run about $85 for a minivan or large SUV each way.

Any comments?

Thank You,
Joe

Well, this is our second cruise and for the second time we're renting a car. But we come down before the cruise and usually stay a day or 2 after, so it's handy to have a car to get around.

For two of us, we like the DCL busses. We stay the night before the cruise at the Hyatt, and with the busses, we're usually at the port between 11:00 and 11:30am on the morning if the cruise, and amongst the first 20 or so people in line. At $46/person, we could probably save a few bucks with a rental car, but would then have to drop it off and get the shuttle. Saving the extra step is worth the extra $10 or $20 to me. When we become a threesome (any day now!), we'll probably go the car rental route.

Why don't you consider a TownCar?
We usually take the TownCar, it's about $80 one way and a very nice way to travel to the port. They also have vans if your party is bigger. Try the links on the DIS-Mainpage or go to www.wdwig.com, which offers an overview of all transportation services.

Señor Ferrari Congratulations???

I assume the last bus for the airport leaves shortly after 9:00 am? The reason I am asking is that we are most likely taking Disney transportation and we are in no hurry to get off the boat since our flight does not leave until 4:00 pm.

My husband doesn't like the hassle of renting and driving - filling up with gas - getting lost, etc.....

Of course, there is always the town car option which I am considering....

Our flight was also in the afternoon. It actually will take a bit of time to get the bus back to the airline depending on which airline you are with. Some of the airlines have you check in and leave your luggage with them before you get on the bus. This took us about an hour maybe even a little longer to get checked in. The nice thing about this is that you don't have to worry about your luggage at that point and they do not search any luggage. It's all loaded into big trucks.

We paid $48 a day for a minivan through budget. They have an office right next to AVIS at the port. I dropped the family (5 of us) at the DCL area with our bags and then I took the van into Cocoa to drop it off.

On thind to note on the return.. if you take the DCL transfer, you cannot check them at the port. They must travel with you on the bus. This is due to the new hightend security.

The rental was a no brainer for us and we would definately do it again in the future.

Thanks everyone. The six of us are going to use the will be doing the towncar and a rental on the return. We are hoping to get up to Kennedy Space Center.

Again thank you.
Joe
