Rental car upgrade?

I saw on a show once that if you ask and let the employe now you will write a letter on how good thay were. Some time you get a upgrade. I just had to rent a car for my auto to go in the bodyshop. The insurance company gave me $18 a day for a rental. My brotherinlaw got me a upgrade to a SUV because he works there for the same price told the manager that we have a suv at home and three kids. so the manager gave us the suv. Did you ever get a free upgrade?

Um... I am not sure about the "telling the employee thing". I bet they have heard that one and been burned before (i.e. no letter)

I get free upgrades from Hertz all the time, but that is because I give them LOTS of business.
