Rental car to Miami port help please

Hello! If flying into Fort Lauderdale the night before a cruise then renting a car to get to the Miami port the following day, where is the best place to drop the car and how should I get to the port? Are there shuttles from the car rental drop offs as there are at Canaveral? Best car rental company? Any help is appreciated!

At the Miami airport (MIA), there is a parking area with all of the car rental agencies that service the port and the airport. Some of these agencies have shuttles to the Port. I know for sure that Alamo/National has a shuttle to the port of Miami from the airport because we have taken it. Others have shuttles too.

Thank you SO much! Anyone have thoughts about any Port rental car dropoffs? I seem to have found one at Dollar rental. Does anyone have experience with that one?

If we use it, should we drop the family at the DCL ship with the luggage then one of us return the car then take the shuttle back to the ship?

There are several rental agencies downtown and only blocks from the port. So close if you didn't have luggage you could use the free metro mover and walk it. A taxi or Uber can get you to the port in minutes for almost no charge.

I haven't done it a few years, but when I did, there were no shuttles from the car rental locations near the port. MIA is not far from the port and several rental agencies had free shuttles to the port. Originally, we had planned to drop everyone off and then return the car, but MIA was on the way to the port and the whole family took the shuttle.
