My daughter and I are flying into Sanford and renting a car for the drive to All Star Sports. I'm going from the airport, to a Wal-Mart, then to the resort to drop off our things. My husband and son are driving, visiting friends on the way and ending up in Daytona for the Nascar race in July. They are picking us up and driving us home at the end of our trip so I'll only need the rental car for the trip from the airport to the hotel. Where can I take the car and drop it off and then catch a disney bus back to the hotel? We've flown into Sanford multiple times and I think that they have most of the rental car chains. I'm just not sure where to put that I'll be returning the car.

Thanks for any and all help.

My vote would be to rent from National or Alamo and then drop the car off at the Dolphin or the Car Care Center.

At the Dolphin, the Disney buses will only go to a park or DTD, so you'd have to transfer if you wanted to get back to your resort (assuming it's not one of the Epcot resorts). You could also walk or take the Friendship Boat to DHS and then catch a bus back to your resort.

The Car Care Center has a shuttle that can take you back to your resort.

Almost all the car rental companies have places in the DTD hotels on Hotel Plaza Boulevard. My favorite is the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Dollar location.
Many times we have rented at the airport and dropped there, or rented there and dropped at the airport. It's an easy walk from there to the DTD bus stop.
You can use the code KISS2 for a discount.

I've used National Car Rental at the WDW Dolphin several times for one-way rentals and I've been very satisfied. You would return your rental car at valet parking (make sure they know you're returning a car, not just wanting it parked). The Dolphin is served by WDW Transportation buses. You can also walk (or take a boat) to Epcot.

However, you are not limited National/Alamo, and you don't have to rely on WDW Transportation. Every major company is represented on or near WDW property usually at several locations, and many locations offer a free ride back to your resort or wherever you want to go on property during their business hours.

See the "sticky" thread, "Car rental locations for WDW..." at the top of the DISboards Transportation Forum: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2927109

I quoted dollar and got a rate of 40 bucks. I'm picking up at noon and returning it at five. Do y'all think I can do better? That seems high to me.

Different perspectives I guess, but I would have said that $40 is cheap for a one-day rental. I would have expected it to be closer to $80-$100.

You could keep it for 24 hours at the same rate. That might help you see the value. It a good rate IMO.

Well, for one thing, you should be able to modify your reservation to return your car at noon the next day instead on 5:00 p.m. the same day. Car rentals are normally priced in 24-hour days, not calendar days. You might as well have use of the car, perhaps to go to a restaurant that's awkward to get to without a car (such as Jiko, Boma, or Sanaa) or to off-site dining or shopping.

If the $40 is for a car with a trunk that's big enough for all your luggage, includes all taxes and fees, and is for unlimited mileage, then it's not bad for a one-day rental.

I went ahead and made the reservation with dollar and scheduled the drop off at the Wyndham resort at downtown Disney that someone above suggested. Thanks for the help. We've only ever rented for the week before so I wasn't sure what to expect price wise. From the hotel I can walk to downtown Disney and catch a Disney bus back to the hotel or will the car rental place take me back? I just want to know what to expect. Either scenario will be fine.
