rental car rates (a challenge for the budget experts!)

I am staying for less than a week which seems to be a problem in finding a low rate on a rental car.

I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone can help me find a good deal! I would like to be able skip the checkout counter and will sign up for any membership rewards to do so.

I have AAA and a BJ's card.

There are only two of us but we must have a decent sized trunk since I am putting everything in one giant suitcase.

Travel dates- Dec 13-17, pickup 9am dropoff 11am. National is giving a rate through their website of $105 for an intermediate car. I'm sure I can do better than this but I need help!

Suggestions? Can anyone find something less than $105 for me?? The $105 is without any insurance, etc.

With taxes (still no insurance of any kind) it's $138 total. That's $34.50 a day total.

I have found better rates closer to travel date. I am also on the prowl for a good rate (on a minivan in Oct), but expect that I will need to wait for a few months to find one.

My total through National for May 1-5 is $93.77, including taxes. I used the contract ID 6600330 and coupon code 10009123 (you have to have the coupon, which is from the entertainment book, and I believe thay are all half off now it you don't already have one) Join the Emerald Club for quick service. www.mousesavers.com will have links to join for free under the car rentals section, as well as more codes. I used the $20 entertainment coupon and the Priceless Code and my rate for one week December 17-23 is $107 (includes all taxes - no insurance for a full size car) That is through National. With Emerald Club, you don't have to pay for the 2nd driver.

Did you plug in the coupon code from BJ's (gotten from coupons in the store)? Don't forget that with that coupon the additional driver is free (usually $7/day) which is a good savings if you want that option. (I found the BJ's coupon and Entertainment Book coupons to be identical savings).

I just checked the National website for an intermediate-size car, your dates and times. Using the Priceless Vacations Contract ID code from MouseSavers - 6600330 - and the $20-off a weekly rental coupon from the Entertainment Book, I was able to come up with a rate of $93.82 including taxes and fees but not insurance. If you join the Emerald Club, you can add a spouse as a second driver for free (but don't use the Emerald Club contract ID#, use the Priceless one instead).
