What happens if you pick up or drop off your rental early? Our flight times have changed both ways. Now we are getting in an hour earlier and leaving 4 hours earlier.

Of course rental prices are much higher now than when I booked. If I rebook to the correct times it is an extra $300 on top of the rate I have.

The car is booked thru Alamo, and we can skip the counter. What happens if we grab a car a little earlier than the reservation time? What happens if we drop it off a lot earlier?

We use Alamo all the time and I think I've read that if a car is returned earlier than expected, you just won't get a credit for the unused time. As far as your arrival, since it's only an hour earlier, I don't think that would be an issue, either. When I've priced cars with different pick up/drop off times (same dates, but maybe a couple of hours difference one way or another), the price has always been the same. But just to be sure, I would email Alamo and ask.

Don’t adjust your reservation beforehand!!! Just tell them when you pick up (even if that means waiting in line) the car that you need to adjust the drop off time and it will be adjusted by just a few hours rate only. In May 2021 I had a reservation at MCO for 5 days and I wanted to change my drop off time from 12:00 to 5:00. If I made the modification online it was going to cost more than $200 more for the reservation. In person at pickup it ended up adding like $15 at pick up.

As a side note, I did call before and ask why it was so much more and the agent said because I was rebooking at a higher rate and told me to just tell them in person when I picked up the car.

In April, I returned the our car from Alamo about 3 hours late. I was just charged about $15 more dollars.

Unless you are renting for something other than a number of days (or a full week), I would not make any change in this circumstance. Alamo rental charges are based on 24-hour days. Picking up about one hour early and returning about four hours early should neither add an additional day to your reservation nor cause a reduction in the number of days to be charged. Making a change in the reservation may change the rental rate, since these have been fluctuating (and increasing) lately.
