Rental car (Florida) - Price drop!! Aug.6

The aggressive counter agents are the main reason we book with a company that lets you prebook and allows you to go directly to the parking garage. With Budget it is called Fastbreak.
Yes, I have Budget fast break too. But their closest return is the DTD Doubletree. For my purposes Alamo just works best, since I only want the car while I'm in Ft Lauderdale, and the drive up to Wdw. The moment after I check in, I return the rental. And Alamo is very close to GF or Poly where we are staying. And if at Epcot we can return to Dolphin.
We do pre book, but just go to counter. I'll have to ask about going directly to garage. I have noticed they have machine kiosks. And am an Alamo member. Thanks for the tip.
But I like booking thru Costo because of the free extra driver. Wonder if I can Book with Costco and skip the desk.

Most Alamo agents are fine, just get the occasional aggressive one.

Price drop alert!!! Finally, 1.5 weeks Before we leave Costco Alamo prices are starting to drop. Hopefully they continue to drop for my 10 day rental. I think a mid size is down to $240ish. Still higher than the $230 I booked but hope it drops to at least $200. Last years was $180.
I checked 2 hrs ago, and nothing. Then I just decided to check again and they dropped by $100!

Hi Sue,
I hope it drops before your trip. I am so mad that I didn't lock in ( June) when my week was 188.00!! Lesson learned.

Have a great trip

Thanks. I thought Budget was down to 240, but was fleeting, because I checked again and it was 280ish. However I've seen that before, prices can jump around by the hour. Crazy. Now that my trip is very close I'll be checking several times a day

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your input. We do have rental insurance with our policy and I also have First Class Visa that includes it -if you pay with the card. I always get nervous when you get to the kiosk and they "frighten" you with what could happen if you don't take their insurance. I've looked on the Dis Boards and can't find a Canadian who has had an accident in Florida and had to use their own insurance. Any insight would be much appreciated. (When I called Allstate -my advisor wasn't sure -that made me even more nervous!!!)

Enjoy your trip!!!

I didn't use my own car insurance but did use my credit card insurance for a fender bender while in Orlando. Everything went smoothly, no problems. I will say that I did take the 3rd party liability from National and it fixed the other car but my credit card insurance fixed my rental car. Your credit card insurance doesn't cover 3rd party liability, it only covers damage to your rental. At that time I didn't have the sef 27 rider on my own car. My insurance person assures me that it covers the liability as well as the collision. I hope I don't have to find out.

Thanks for sharing your experience - I did double check with Allstate and we are fully covered. The agent answered all my questions and she told me a lot of people feel the same pressure to purchase insurance in the USA. She even sent me an email to confirm my coverage.

Thanks again,

Last year I used autoslash to book our car rental. I'm not too sure if it's the cheapest as I don't have too much experience looking around, but we seemed to get a good deal. It's a neat concept! They book your rental, then watch and rebook automatically if the price goes down, and they will notify you they rebooked. You can cancel at any time because you don't enter your credit card info- you just pay at the counter when you pick up the car! It will give you a break down of the costs, so you have to look at the component of the price that could be reduced.
