My friend just offered me her timeshare in Orlando. We generally stay onsite and don't need a rental car. I have been looking around and can't find anything less than close to $500 for the week. What am I missing? I have never paid this much for a car. Don't need anything more than a compact, economy. I have tried a few of the codes I have seen and still $500 seems to be the cheapest unless I use Payless or E-Z and the reviews are horrible. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions?

I wish I could offer some hope. March is terrible for both air and rental cars. We travel every March and have never seen anything like this. We have to fly on weekends due to work. RT air from BWI averages 600 pp (4 = 2400) plus 500 for a rental. So, 2900 just to get there. We are driving which I'm not looking forward to and my DH said March...never again. Last March we used SW and paid 198 RT. Flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 180 RT now, but work schedules won't give us that luxury!

That's because you are looking to early for rental cars. The closer your trip the cheaper the rental. Just look at the Dec 2014 car rental thread you will see those folks looked months before their trip and the prices were high. Yet the closer the trip got the prices dropped.

However, don't wait to book a car. Most rental companies will let you cancel/change your rental with no fee (confirm that before booking). So, book a car now, then keep watching. As the prices drop, modify your reservation.

March is spring break time

I booked a couple months ago and got a midsize through Alamo for $140. Right now it is about $400! I am hoping they come down, so I can get a better rate, but thank goodness I booked when I did!:sad2:

1) Your problem is a common one.
2) Trying to rent a car at/near the airport.
3) Go on-line for an Enterprise car for Lake Buena Vista, Hotel Plaza Blvd.
4) You will see weekly rates from $205-$220 for a Compact thru Full-Size car. *

* Add approx $50 to the weekly rate for taxes and fees.

Expedia flagged first week as high volume for car rental. Cant find any reason. Cheapest i booked was Hertz through work at $285 total. Hope for lower rates.
