Rental Car Drop-off around DLR or airport

Hello, I was thinking of maybe going down to Disneyland with my soon to be four year old kid and my hubby. I really like the idea of not having a car, but was considering including a one day outing to Legoland, so I was thinking of grabbing a rental car at the airport the first day we get there for one or two days. The question is it better to drop off at the airport and then just take the shuttle back, or are there decently priced options for dropoff closer to Disneyland. So far we are planning on staying at Howard Johnsons across the street, if that makes a difference. Seems like a hassle to do the airport thing.

There is an Alamo in downtown Disney. A couple others with desks in hotels nearby too.

There's an Enterprise lot at Clementine and Katella, across the street from Cheesecake Factory.

I think there is also a National on West Katella in one of the hotels there.
