Rental car codes

When do these come out? We need to book a car for June so I'm wondering how long we should wait. Also, we're a family of 5. We have 3 kids 4-8 when we go. We're not taking huge amount of luggage because I plan to do laundry in our time share. How large of a car do you think we'll need? I figure we'll have two large suitcases and probably a couple of those little carryon suitcases for the kids.

I'd personally go with a mid size SUV, full size SUV or mini van. There aren't too many discounts for 2008 yet. But, I got a mid size SUV for $185 for the last week in April thru Alamo using Walmart's code 430710 and $15 off ecoupon code D42C (good thru 6-31-08). (For my trip, the mid size SUV is cheaper than a full size car and the full size SUV is just a few dollars more than a full size car)

I'd book now and then keep checking. Once you find a better deal, book the new rate and then cancel your old reservation. I'm anxiously awaiting more codes/discounts to be released. Last year, my mid size SUV was only $125 for the week!

Ok, I just checked and for my week in June it's $273. It also says I'm using a coupon for which I might need to show when I pickup the car. So what exactly is this Wal Mart code?

The walmart code and any discounts for that matter can be found in the mousesavers web site. Mary lists every code that she knows about. If you are going in June, expect the price to drop a couple months before your trip. If you look around this forum you will notice that people going in January are noticing the price drop now. My advice is to just keep watching because you never know when the price drops. Also keep an eye here.

The walmart code is not giving you that message - it's the coupon code for $15 off. It's an ecoupon so it should not be required at pick up. You can print it off (just in case) and bring it with you. To get it -- go to Alamo's site and then Hot Deals. It's listed under Weekly Rent A Car Exclusives.

Rates do fluctuate and should drop as you get closer to your trip. We always end up rebooking several times as our trip approaches to get a better deal!
