Rent/Trade Board is dry as a desert

GREAT NEWS!

As of today, the DIS has added a new option to the R/T Board. Those who aren't active members and do not have 50 posts spread over 6 months can now pay a fee to post their points for rent.

The fee is $25 for members of 6 months or longer or $50 for those with less then 6 months of dis membership. Very reasonable, IMHO.

I was getting worried that the R/T board was going to be phased out of existance because of lack of available points.

With this new fee, DIS can now start gettting a small piece of the pie that SOOOO many people have made a lot of money on. What's better is that I think it will save the board and keep open another option for those looking to rent points. I would imagine we should start seeing the R/T board returning to it's former glory within a week or two! :cloud9:

Personally I think it does make a lot of sense to do this. Not so sure about the $25 dollar fee to get around the post requirement as I feel it negates the intent of the rule in the first place. For someone renting from a profit perspective $25-50 is a nuisance that won't stop a thing. I have seen many posts by people claiming to have thousands of points available and were clearly renting in a commercial manner which is something that could take down the rent/trade board in a way that would have a destructive impact to the board more so than the simple inconvenience to some of us who don't post 50+ times in 6 months. Encouraging those who want to rent to post and participate on the board is a positive.

To be honest I personally don't post very often and this limit does take me out of the picture as someone who has rented points in the past. However I'm willing to increase my participation in the boards to regain the ability to rent when I need to. This post being my first step in that direction. To me the deterrent to scammers and the increased likely hood that I'm renting from a fellow Disney fan, not someone looking for investment return is worth the trade off. In my opinion to post a 'points wanted' or to reply to a points for rent you should also have a history on the boards. This protects those of us renting as well. Every time I have rented the fear of someone destroying the room, backing out and taking me to civil court for a refund, having their check bounce, and any other number of issues that can possibly arise from renting, sit in the back of my mind making the process nerve racking. Last year instead of renting I GAVE my points away to family to avoid the stress.

50 posts divided by 6 months, between 8 & 9 posts a month. With how large this forum is you're telling me you can't make 2 or 3 posts a week? Most of us listen to a few hours of podcasts a week from the DIS. I say reinstate the rules as they originally were done.
