Rent stroller or buy one?

Hi, lots of questions. As you probably know we will be at the Poly with my 4 yo dgd and her parents. I know we can rent a stroller at the parks but I could buy one and take it with us. Thinking of a Maclaren stroller since she is just over 40 lbs. Just thought maybe it would be good also for Blizzard beach, DTD. What are you all's opinions on this? Are the rental strollers better?

Bring your own it makes things so much easier especially if you are going to be at the Poly the only time you have to fold the stroller is for the bus. If you did decide to rent maybe look into an outside rental place. I have seen several listed on the boards, I can't think of them right now but it might be cheaper unless you plan on frequent visits with the stroller.

Forgive me for my poor memory, but can your granddaughter walk at all, or not? Only, if she can, you might be better off not taking a stroller to the water parks. I'm just not sure about the logistics of it. You'd need to find somewhere to park up every time you went on a slide / into the wave pool / to the kids area / around the creek etc, and the slides don't finish up anywhere near the place they start. I found I could just manage the water parks without a chair if I used the creek as a round route bus service to get across the place (provided I had my long suffering feller as a crutch ;) ).

If I remember, your grandaughter has autism???

There is a place listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread that rents strollers and special needs strollers.

One advantage of having a stroller with you (either your own or rented from off-site) is that you would also have it at the resort. That would be a big help because the resorts are large and might involve a lot of walking.
Another advantage is that she would be used to it and might be more comfortable in it (especially if she doesn't like change).
A disadvantage would be that you would have to transport it on the buses or whatever other transportation you use. Not difficult, just another thing to be bringing with.

Many people with children on the autism spectrum say their kids like the WDW park rental strollers. They are made of firm plastic and have a nice canopy and solid sides that cut down on stimulation.

Whatever stroller you use, check out the information about GACs (Guest Assistance Cards) in the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You could request to bring the stroller and have it treated the same as a wheelchair.

I just bought the Mclaren Volo and took it to Disney this weekend. LOVED it!It is much easier to steer than the Disney strollers. I always think it is a pain to find my rental stroller mixed it with all the others since they all look the same. Plus it was wonderful to have a stroller when I needed (at the resort) and will pay for itself in less than a week. This one is also so light when it is folded you can carry it with you, not bulky or hard to fold.:cheer2:
