I'm looking for some of the pros/cons for renting vs. just using a service to and from the airport. We will be there 6 days and can rent a car for 220 buxs. We are staying at the Poly with a 5 and 3 year old so we spend "most" of the time at MK. Is it worth the extra 100 buxs to rent or will our travel needs be met with a car service and the monorail? Just seems like 100 bucks for a ride back and forth is a lot when you can rent a car for 40 buxs a day or less?

Anyone else had this issues? What did you do and how did it work out?

Here are a few:

Car rental

Pro: Car at your disposal! Can go where you want.
Con: If you don't plan on leaving WDW will pay for car to sit in parking lot

Towncar

Pro: No waiting in car rental line!
Con: Can't leave WDW resort without paying for taxi or some other type of transportation

Any thoughts on how much use we will get from a car if we stay at the Poly?

It seems to make sense to rent a car for 100 bucks more than the cost of a towncar. The cost of transportation from the airport seems high to me. What is the draw to use a towncar/limo over renting?

To me the convenience of the TownCar is well worth the money. 1. They meet you at baggage claim
2. Help with your bags and load you up right outside the door.
3. Will make a grocery store stop if you want to pick up any items you might need.
4. Drop you off right at your resort.
5. Pick you up right at your resort when time to depart.
6. Drop you off at airport for curbside check in.

Unless you are planning on driving offsite while at WDW you can't beat it from my perspective. You have access to all WDW transportation at your resort, so shouldn't really need access to car. Have fun. :earsboy:

We went to WDW in 2000, stayed at the CBR and rented a car, this time we are using a car service because of the following:

1. The best rental rates are usually with a company that is not in the airport=a lot of time wasted taking a shuttle to the actual location, can take several hours (that was our experience)
2. You have to lug all your luggage from baggage claim to the area where they pick you up.
3. You have to try to find the rental car location when returning the car, we couldn't find ours.
4. We drove our van twice in 2000. From the airport to the hotel, from the hotel to the airport. That time we WERE NOT staying at the Poly, which would be much more convienent transportation wise.
5. You have to drive. This is my husband's vacation too, I want him to be able to relax without stressing about directions and traffic.

Thanks for the great info, I was really planning on getting a car, but now I think I'll give the service a try. Does anyone know if they can fit two adults and two car seats in a standard towncar?

Thanks,

What about 2 one way rentals? Make any stops at grocery store on your own time. You should be able to arrange a drop off and pick up from your resort and the cost would probably be less then the towncar service...Mark

In order to do the 2 one way rental I then have to stand in line etc. Those are the only real positives of the towncar. If I rent I think I would spend the extra money for the whole trip. Thanks for the thought though if your really budgeting that would be super idea.
