Hi again! Thanks for your advice so far! We are staying at the Polynesian. Would we be better off renting a car or would we be ok with using Disney Transportation? We have 2 kids 5 and 9 and I've read different information about how long the busses take to get around. It seems like the monorail will work fine for Ecot and Disney. How long does it take the monorail to circle the Polynesian/Grand Florid./Disney/Cont.? Thanks:confused:

stick with the on site transportation

gf poly have great transportation

we also rent a car when we stay at the yc/ bc but not at the gf

We always have a car, I hate to depend on other people for transportation.

We rented a car during our stays at the Polynesian. It sat there a lot BUT it was great ot know it was there when we needed it. We used it to get to MGM and AK and the water parks. Just felt easier than waiting for buses and trying to jam into the buses at the end of a long hot day.

We'll hopefully be staying at the Poly in May with 2 kids (4 & 8) and we will rent a car. Dh ALWAYS has to have a car! LOL!

Hi,

Since you're at Poly, a rental really isn't needed, since you're right next to TTC, or can take a boat to MK, or Monorail to... well you get the picture. However, we did rent a car to get to Poly from the airport, and used it to go off property for dinner once, run errands, etc.

Enjoy your time at Poly!!

We stayed at the Poly Christmas week (12/23-12/29), me, DH, DD (12), DS (12), DS (7). My DH also INSISTS on having a car but we decided to give the Disney transportation a shot. We were glad we did! The monorail is a quick ride to the MK (maybe 7 minutes!). Epcot is no problem either. We enjoyed a nice walk to the Ticket & Transportation center and then a quick monorail ride to the park! As far as the bus goes, we never had to wait for more then 5 minutes. We had an Illuminations cruise one night, which left from the Y&BC marina and had no problem catching a bus from the MK. Granted, it can occasionally get crowded on the buses, but we never felt like sardines. And being Christmas week, it was VERY VERY crowded at the parks! Needless to say, my DH was happy we saved the money on the rental!:jester:

Hi Dimimi, I've stayed at the Poly once, CBR several times, Coronado twice, All Star Sports and Movies three times and a few off-site. All times we rented a car although we didn't use it much it was worth it as far as driving from airport to resort and going back to airport at end of a trip. We once didn't rent a car and used the airport bus service and it was a nightmare for us. I must admit the least amount of times we used the car was when we stayed at the Poly but, we used it to go to Downtown Disney and have dinner at Olive Garden in LBV and buy a few things at Goodings (supermarket) and to get to Walgreens for baby formula, etc... I prefer to use the car for Downtown Disney instead of the bus, we have little ones that fall asleep in their strollers and with bags from shopping it's pretty difficult to get kids out of stroller, close stroller, hold kids on the bus and bags and then unload from bus and open stroller again. This happen to us once and so even if the car sits in the lot for the majority of the trip I rather have a car available for the times I do need it especially with kids.

Hope this helps, good luck! :)

Many people don't want to spend the money to rent a car especially when they are not leaving Disney Property, and Disney does have some of the best transportation you will ever see, but I have found it much easier and a big time saver to have a rental car for some destinations. If you have ever made reservations and you were running late the car will save you. Also when visiting parks and don't want to pack everything you think you may need on your back, you can leave it in the car. The last reason is that to go from a park to some other destination otherthan back to a resort you must go to the closest resort and wait for the bus to your destination (example MGM to Down Town Disney). You can survive without a car but it makes life easier and your time from one place to another faster. Remember as a Disney Resort guest you have free parking at all Disney locations.

Aloha

Steve
