My mom, niece and I will be traveling to Orlando 2/28-3/1. We are flying in and staying at Cabana Bay as the majority of our trip will be at Universal. However, we are planning on going to MK for the day on 2/29 (and want to make a stop at the Outlet). I'm doing the math and renting a car+resort parking+MK parking is going to be close to if not the same as if we used Uber/Lyft for the entire trip.

I'm debating on if it will be a hassle to get a rental since we are on such a short trip. Thoughts?

I would also just use Lyft or Uber. Its just easier than having to take the time to pick up and drop off the rental, and then rely on GPS directions while navigating the traffic and construction messes of Orlando.

I always rent a car because I like the freedom to go anywhere at a moments notice, but it seems like renting a car at MCO and driving to Disney/Universal/Canaveral is getting to be more of a hassle. If you are comfortable taking rideshares, I would say go for it.

We always rented a car when staying offsite and doing Disney in addition to other things like Universal. Shopping/eating is also less of a hassle if you have your own car. Food is always cheaper if you eat someplace other then Disney and having your own car gives you greater flexibility. Using on-line taxi services gets pricey if you decide to go to many places and tends to give you less options for traveling to multiple locations on one outing (i.e. shopping/eating/etc.)

I would get the rental if it's that close money wise. With a Lyft/Uber there will be times you will probably have to wait for them to arrive, with the rental you can be 10-15 min further down the road. You will have more freedom if you decide to do something different or go out to eat somewhere else.

FWIW, we've never had to wait more than 10 minutes coming from or going to Disney or Universal. Uber/Lyft is essentially door to door service as compared to driving yourself where you have to navigate through the parking lot, payment booths, parking trams, etc. So, IMO, its really a draw when it comes to one being a time saver over the other.
