Rent a Car - Yay or Nay?

I would NOT rent a car because it probably will be less expensive to take a cab. Never trust Disney transportation.

We ALWAYS rent a car. There's no part of me that wants to be at the mercy of buses. Yuck!

We always rent a car and love the convenience. We take ME and rent a car from a DTD hotel where the shuttle picks us up at our resort. At this moment we are at OKW and did not pick up the rental car until the 2nd day. It took us well over an hour to get to dinner the first night (we took a cab back to the resort- a 6 minute trip) and we thought it would be easier to take the bus to MK today. We won't be doing that again. That is just us, though. I know my way around without hesitation, so that makes it easy for us.

I always rent a car - convenience, time saving, going off site etc. There was a chap on the transport board a couple of years ago who tracked patterns with car rental costs and claimed the cheapest time to get a car was 4 - 2 weeks out from the trip. I think he was picking up last minute deals from alamo.

I rented a car for my first ever trip earlier this month and it was one of the best decisions about my trip! I took the bus to MK my first day as that was recommended due to the TTC but the second time I went I just drove. So much faster and easier! When I was leaving MK after EMH it was packed...took two buses until I got on, then it's uncomfortable for the ride, and this was in a low season! It was extra helpful for my offsite trip to Universal and for stopping and getting snacks and water!

Sounds like mixed opinions, hmmm. Being late for things is one of my personal pet-peeves in life. Only the morning stuff stresses me out. I don't care if I have to wait for busses or stand when leaving the parks. Hopping transfer time isn't a hge deal. In face, I bet that with a car, a hop might put us so far back in the parking lot, the time savings might be negligible (I usually hit it so early I am in the first row of parking).

I guess I will wait and monitor prices. A cab isn't a bad idea either for the ADR. Thanks!

I only say don't rent because it probably would be less to take a cab (depending on how often you would use it). My experience is that there are always cabs available at the resorts as soon as you step outside so we usually take a cab to ADRs or in the morning. We'll sometimes take the bus back to the resort in the evening because we aren't as concerned about how long the trip takes.

We always take transportation...we find it fun and always seem to make friends on the busses!! Its part of our holiday. Seems to be much more relaxing that driving for us....but each to their own I suppose!!:)

We always rent a car. Love having the convenience of it. We do a quick grocery run. Mostly, I love the car when going to ADR's for other resorts. It is so easy and fast to hop in the car and drive over to wherever for breakfast or dinner.

Our car stays hot and lonely out in the resort parking lot for the duration of our stay. Since we are on vacation, we are rarely in a rush to get anywhere, and we've learned how much time to allow for travel. Occasionally we will take a taxi- usually at the end of a late evening of dinner and grown up beverages.

Provided you can make it to your bus stop early enough, you can easily get to your morning ADR and MK RD.

My suggestion would be to try it without the rental. If you don't like it, you can get a rental through several nearby resorts.
