We will be spending some time in Ft. Lauderdale prior to visiting WDW in August. I am undecided as to whether it would be better to fly from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando (SW has direct flights) or to rent a car and return it once near WDW. :confused3 There is a Budget Rental in Kissimmee. Has anyone used a rental car for a short trip like this to WDW? Will the local car rental places drop you off at your Disney Resort?

It will take you about 3 hrs to make the trip....at least that's what my dad in Pompano Beach says and he does it once a year or so. If you decide to rent a car, you should be able to drop it off at the Car Care Center and then they will take you to your resort.

Um, except that probably Budget doesn't want any renters returning cars to National/Alamo... :)
MUCH easier than returning a Budget car to anywhere in Kissimmee, there's a rental counter in the DoubleTree on Hotel Plaza Boulevard. The renter can then walk to Downtown Disney and take a bus to his/her resort, or take a cab directly from the Doubletree.
Or they can rent from Alamo or National, return the car onsite and yes, be driven back to his/her resort.

We make the drive from Boca every year and it is a 3 hour trip. It has to be faster then flying between security and then having to drive 30 minutes to WDW. You could keep the car at WDW , we find it helpfull for off site and resort dining and just drive to the airport.
PS the drive up the turnpike ranks up there as one of the most boring roads you will see, you go about 40 miles between interchanges.
