I've read that some of the older resorts are looking "tired." Is there a schedule for renovations for the DVC units (as Disney does with their hotel rooms)? thanks for your help . . . I'm thinking about purchasing DVC points through resales at on of the older resorts.

I believe DVC generally does rolling renovations at all the resorts, all the time. So there's always a block of rooms out of service for some kind of renovations. As to wholesale changes to an entire resort, I don't know?

Yes, the DVC resorts follow a rehab schedule. At the larger resorts, like SSR and OKW, it is luck of the draw as to where in that cycle your particular room may fall. Some rooms will look tired as the reach the end of that cycle, some rooms are fresh and new.

However, the rehabbed rooms closely follow similar themes to the original. While the matching fabrics aren't always available, they do come close, so even full rehabs are not a drastic change.

Funny thing about that is that I stayed in Saratoga Springs and Old Key West recently. The room at Old Key West was in better shape than the one at Saratoga. So I guess it just means the oldest can be nicer than the newest. It just depends on which has been touched up more recently.

Where did you read that DVC resorts were looking tired?? We've been to all of them fairly recently and none qualified for my definition of "tired." Sounds like sour grapes on someone's part:confused3

I have read people out here stating their disappointment in quality of resorts and that rooms look shabby. I was doing some research on BWV and read posts that stated things looked old or didn't work. When we there we didn't get a room that newly rehab but I really don't care as long as it is fairly clean and everything works. I could see how some people would say the room we were in was tired looking and needed rehab. For the $$$ of DVC and MF compared to places like Marriott some will say DVC doesn't live up to the cost and hype. For me it all about being at WDW and DVC is the only game in town for that.

I stayed in room 129/127 (2BR lock-off) at BCV a couple of weeks ago. It looked pretty run down and it was not clean. I mentioned in another post that sopmeone went crazy killing bugs on the walls and ceilings and they were not cleaned off. Also, dishes and glasses were obviously not washed but were put back in cupboard - and only one burner worked on the stove. I had some unkind things to say about slow bus service also, but that's another story.

Still was a decent vacation, but room could have definitely been better.

irazabul, I hope you wrote to DVC and informed the BCV resort management of the problems during your stay. There is no reason for a unit to be in that poor of a condition.

Before a rehab cycle, you will notice normal use, wear and tear, but no unit should be available to members in the condition that you describe.

I look tired after a week at WDW. ;)

:rotfl: Me too, look and feel tired; but it is a good tired. However, regarding DVC rooms, if they are not in good condition (esp regarding cleaning), the condition should be reported. If "management" is unaware of the problem, then they cannot fix the problem.

A perfect example of refurbishment and wear and tear: GV 1523 at OKW, Extremely clean, neat and kitchen was well stocked. Had new style sleeper sofa and older loveseat, different patterns but still like in theme, coffee table had worn corners and the wood floors definitely needed refinishing. Two of the bedrooms had new comforters, the other did not, the beds however all were comfortable and flet new. Our stay was wonderful, housekeeping spot on, plenty of white fluffy towels, and most importantly the villa was clean. I doubt that DVC goes in for a full refurbishment of rooms where they replace everything. In the previous quarterly magazine they would indicate, ie this month OKW is getting new DVD players, or BWV new siding. They update every resort continously ona need be basis. Luckily, in my many stays I have never had a room that I would consider sad or tatty or below standard in any of the DVC's I've stayed. I've read a few posts otherwise and I would have requested to be moved if given a room in such a state!

Personally I feel that some people go on their DVC vacations with the PURPOSE of finding something wrong with their unit. I know some people actually do have valid complaints but sometimes I think some go overboard!! I was just at BWV for over a week and didnt see any signs of serious paint problems but I know that others would find the ONE spot and rush back to these boards to post the horrible conditions. Also, while I was there I noticed that they were repainting the front entrance/valet-car area. I say great but others would post it as a problem. All I can say is that i'm glad these people aren't vacationing at my house!!

Take it all in with a grain of salt and enjoy your vacation!!!

Personally, I feel that some people always attack legitimate comments with a counter of their own that has no bearing on the original. I am very glad your room at BWV went smoothly - I also do not consider folks repainting an entrance a big deal - in fact I would commend it as proper maintenance.

I'm sorry if about a dozen splatted bugs on my living room walls aren't serious to you. Or that spaghetti sauce (or what looked like it) on my dishes in the cupboard aren't that serious to you. Or that having an issue with burners on the stove not working is going overboard. If that's how you run your household, I too will be glad not vactioning there.

BTW, I did say that I still had a pretty good vacation.

hmmm, sounds like a complete mis-representation of what the previous poster was complaining about....

one paint spot does not equal broken stove, lack of cleanliness, dirty dishes, etc.

We were just at the BWV for a week and the room was immaculate. It actually exceeded my expectations because I expected the room to be a little more run down. The big disappointment was the sheets, bedding was very uncomfortable. It would be so wonderful if they brought in some new sheets & maybe comforters (like the Heavenly Beds @ the Westin).

The room itself was big, spotless, and well decorated. And the hotel public areas were super clean and well taken care of.

I'm waiting for my paperwork to go through, so I haven't vacationed yet as a DVC member. I agree that if you don't tell the people who can fix things, they won't be fixed. If there a method or survey form for giving feedback to the DVC resort? Or should it just be a conversation with someone in the check-in area regarding anything that needs some attention.
thanks

You can call housekeeping/maintenance/engineering directly from your room phone if there is a problem. You can also send an email to member satisfaction.

When I was at Beach Club Villas last Dec they were replacing the Hall carpeting, It was so pretty the next morning. I think the upkeep must be constant.
