Renovations at DLH pool

Hi everyone:

We are planning our first trip to DL with our three kids. We are trying to decide where to stay and we have thought that it would be a treat to stay at the DLH. The pool is the biggest drawing card. I read somewhere else that they are renovating the pools at the DLH. Is this true? We are planning on going in May 2011 ( 19-24) and we want to make sure that we are choosing the right place to stay. Would it be better to stay at the Paradise Pier?

One pool or the other should be open or you could use a pool at one of the other hotels.

I suspect that you will be there right when they are finishing the first pool. But you may be just days short. It's too bad because it will be the best DLR pool with the new slide.

You might consider staying there just for the chance you will get a new room. It will be very high chance that that will be all that is available late spring.

I agree with Matt. Also, if the Neverland pool is open instead of the new pool area (they have been saying it will remain open until the other one is complete) it is still a much more fun pool area than PP.

So my understanding is that they are building a new pool and not closing the one they have down. We are staying there primarily for the pool so if we didn't have it, it would be so sad. Thanks so much!

They are building a new pool/slide area. It is due to open in summer '11. When that opens, the main Neverland pool will close to be re-done (due to open in summer '12).

If the pool is your main reason for staying at the DLH, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. It is a construction zone. You will see and hear construction activity from your lounge chair. Still a fun spot to swim, but not exactly a relaxing experience! And the Neverland pool should still be open then, but there are no guarantees.

If you'll be stressing over this for the next 8 months, you might want to consider one of the other options. GCH has a lovely pool area. PP has a great slide that even not-so-strong swimmers can go down. Both would be great choices for your visit.
