I was delighted to be able to make reservations at Boardwalk in February for September and we have been looking forward to our trip. However, we now understand that there are extensive renovations going on to the exterior, and the Luna pool will close the day after we arrive ! Have these renovations already started ? Has anyone been there recently ? How extensive are the renovations ? We are taking our son, daughter-in-law, and grandaughter and don't want the trip to be ruined for them by renovation. Should I try to transfer to Old Key West ?

hi: you'll have to decide for yourself. we were there in september of 2000 and they were painting the exteriors by espn club and a couple of other minor things. during may, 2001, there was a bit more exterior painting going on and they started the rehab on the front entrance around the time we left. it never bothered us in the least. as far as the pool goes, sab is my family's favorite. they'd rather pool hop over there than go in the luna park pool. the quiet pool should be open as well. if you're really concerned about the rehabbing, give them a call. i expect they'll still be at it when we are there the first week of november as well.

We justed returned from WDW and we stayed at the Boardwalk. There are rennovations going on and the disruption to guest is minimal. I was pleased to see that although the Boardwalk is only five years old it was obvious that the exterior needed work. Also, I am pleased to see our dues at work with the rennovations. Disney does not wait for something to break before it is recognized that updates are needed. It is my understanding the Luna pool will close sometime in Sept. and reopen in Oct. Our stay was very pleasant despite several days of rain with tropical storm Barry. I will add additional detail under a seperate post. I would not recommend transferring to OKW. We stayed there several days and in my opinion there are far more conveniences located at the Boardwalk. We had a two standard view studios located on the third floor close to the elevators and ice machines. At OKW there are no elevators and the ice machines are located at the bus stops. Also, at OKW we were so far from the general store I needed to use the car. If I ever stay at OKW again I will be very specific to ask for a different location. The convenience and location doesn't compare to the Boardwalk. Finally, it was nice to be able to walk home from MGM after the it closed, and everyone else is waiting for a bus. Although you can take a boat it is very slow. While jogging I out ran the boat--and I don't jog at a fast pace. ( smile) Enjoy your vacation!!!

FYI - -- The exterior repairs are due to some construction problem/defect. The contractor, not the membership, is picking up the cost.

We just returned from WDW today (Thursday). We stayed three nights at BWV and the renovation involves scaffolding around areas that are being painted. Many awnings have been removed in preparation for painting. They were painting around the BW entrance to the lobby this afternoon as we made our way to the car for our trip to the airport. :(

We loved the BWV for their proximity to both EPCOT and MGM. We used the quiet pool exclusively. I would not change my reservations if the main pool is closed unless it is a high priority with you. The other renovations should not affect your stay.

I hope to write more about our stay later. We also spent three nights at VWL and two nights at VB, but I have to go back to work tomorrow, actually today since it's now past midnight. I'm still on vacation time. :)

When one hotel pool is closed due to renovation work it is usual for Disney to offer the services of a "sister" or neighbour pool. As this is liklely to be the Y+B club pool, I'd be pretty happy :D:D

Why not call and ask what the alternate arrangements are.
