We currently have the SoCal AP and it expires on 12/21/14. We're planning a trip at the end of Sept and probably another one the Sunday following Thanksgiving. If we renew our AP the Sunday following Thanksgiving, can anybody tell me if they will extend the pass to expire on 12/21/15 or will they change it to the weekend following Thanksgiving in 2015? I assume it should be extended til 12/21/15 but I just want to make sure.

A side question. Our daughter doesn't turn 3 until Dec 2015. If we all have the SoCal select, has anybody had the same situation where their newly turned 3 year old need an AP? If so, did DLR/DCA let you purchase another SoCal? The website currently shows that the SoCal is only available for renewals.

It's possible they will not let you renew yet a month prior. I only say this because I just renewed my AP at the end of Aug, but they would not let us renew my ds's pass that expires in Oct yet. I was not the adult who tried, so I'm not sure if they stated a date that would be the earliest this was possible.

I think the website says something about 40 days out so I think if I do it the Sunday following Thanksgiving, I should be ok.

Did your renewal extended the date from the date that you renewed or from it actually expires into 2015?

You can renew your pass up to 40-days before your expiration date and still qualify for the renewal price. The pass will have the same expiration date. I don't think you can renew prior to the 40-day window.

I haven't heard about anyone being able to get a SoCal AP for a child that just turned 3 when the rest of the family has a SoCal AP. On the other hand, I haven't hear anyone say they couldn't either. I think your best bet is to call Annual Passholder Services (714-781-7277) and ask. I'd call a few times to make sure you get a consistent answer.

If you renew, you keep your original date. They used to take your old AP and give you a new one. So if for example you decided to get premium next year, you would have gotten a new premium pass in Nov with the Dec expiration. BUT with the new evergreen APs people have reported that even if you renew early, the higher pass level won't take effect until your original Dec date.

The answer to your question about a newly 3 year old getting a So Cal AP has consistently been no from Disney. This is one area where their flexibility is seriously lacking. When a child turns 3 they should be willing to offer a prorated AP for a single year to sync with a parent's existing AP. A 3 year old isn't going to the park alone, and when you have parents who are actually willing to pay for the child instead of sneaking them in as under 3 then they should be willing to work with that.

Depending on how many trips you're planning you may just want to buy park hoppers for your daughter for this year, especially if there's a So Cal deal similar to last year where you get several months to use your days.

The earliest you can renew your pass is 11/11/2014. You would keep your original expiration date of 12/21 but it would be updated to 2015. If you decide to renew your pass to a higher level of AP, the new pass level would not take effect until 12/22/14.

As for your daughter, I've heard of Disney making exceptions for family's with SoCal APs and allowing them to purchase a new SoCal AP for a child who just turned 3. You should call Disney and ask to speak to someone in the box office and explain your situation.
