Renewing DVC AP question

We bought DVC Annual Passes in Sept. 2008 shortly after we became members.
We are going back to Disney in December 2009. Will we be able to renew our DVC AP? Will we get a notice in the mail to do this? I'm thinking this will be the cheaper way to go rather than get a 10 day pass, since we will be in Disney for 10 nights. Also, our son will turn 3 mid-way through our trip. Do we just buy him a Magic Your Way pass on his birthday? I wasn't sure how that would work. I don't think he will need an AP, because this will be our only trip for a year and a half.

Thanks for any help!

Your current pass expires in September 2009. You have a 30 day window to renew, and any renewal would expire in September 2010, the same as the original pass. So no, you can not do a renewal.

There is only a small renewal savings for DVC, you'd be better off simply buying a new DVC AP in December. Or, buy a new AP voucher now to lock in the current price, in case the rumored increase next month is real.

Your question regarding a ticket for your son is interesting. For things like the Dining Plan Disney will keep the child's age at the beginning of the trip for the whole trip, even if a birthday falls mid-trip. If a child has a multi-day ticket and moves from child to adult ticket age before the days are used up, Disney still allows the child to use the ticket. It will be interesting if the same holds for a park ticket when the child initially requires no ticket. I will probably get flamed for saying this, but I would be likely to just not buy a ticket at all this trip.

I think that the same type of rule applies to park tickets as to the DDP and packages, if the child turns 3 during your stay in the same room, then no ticket is needed. If you change rooms/reservations after he turns 3, then you'll need a ticket.

Hi if you renew on line right now the price for DVC AP is 345.06(all ears .net price chart) regular DVC AP price 392.99... a 47+ savings and that is before the rumored price increase in early Aug so those prices would be good til then. If you renew the pass would be good til Sept 2010.
I have done this for my pass that expires in Oct. you can get an evoucher that you turn in at Guest Services or have them mail you one.
not touching the child pass issue.:goodvibes

But the poster isn't going to actually "renew" until December, and his pass expires in September. Passes can only be "renewed" within 30 days of the original expiration.

Yes, you can buy a renewal voucher, but the OP won't be able to trade it in for a renewal in December if the pass expires in September. The difference would have to be paid at that time.

I have renewed my Oct AP online in August before the price increase for the last few years. I just went to the passholder site and put a renewal DVC AP in my cart, no problem(I just did it now to check and it still went in cart , I just didn't pay)....I then get a evoucher that I take to WDW in Oct and trade in for my AP renewal...it was all paid for and I got was a updated pass do to expire the following Oct on my renewal date.

Yes, you are physically renewing an October pass IN October, that is within 30 days of expiration of your original pass. In other words you are actually trading the voucher for the pass within 30 days of expiration.

The OP is wanting to trade a voucher in December for a pass that expires in September. The ability to renew goes by the date you trade the voucher, not when you purchase the voucher.

Are you sure, I thought you could buy your voucher and turn it in. It is just that it is good from the date of the expiration. So if you buy the voucher in Sept, but don't hand it in til Dec, it is still good from Sept 09 -Sept 10. Am I wrong? Anyone have any documented use of this?

That is exactly what I thought...Hey Disney has your money and that is all they care about.

This is what I was hoping. I'm fine with the AP expiring in September 2010 because December will probably be our only trip.

I think I will have DH double check to see how this would work tomorrow. I think it would be worth it for us to renew the AP for the discounts.

What I was worried about here was whether or not DS would have to have an Annual pass since DH and I might. I didn't really want to spend the extra money on the AP for him since he will only be 3 for 6 days. But I didn't know how all that worked.

Ok posted on the Theme Park board for Cheshire Figment who know ALOT about this stuff....and yes you can renew now before possible rate increase or in Sept 30 day window and will get a voucher and you can bring in Dec and get new AP the expire date will be Sept 2010. So as long as you don't care about that date you would be able to right now renew for the $345 to use for your Dec trip.
