Hi, hoping someone can explain as I have read conflicting info...Our AP’s are expiring on Aug 5th, if we renew on Aug 6th can we activate it durning our next trip which won’t be until June, July or even August 2020? Somewhere I read said they are activated the very next day which would be a waste if we aren’t going until Summer 2020.

Thank you

Allow your current APs to expire.

You can buy new AP vouchers now and save them to activate in 2020 to avoid any possible price increases:

No, your pass will continue from the original entry date, i.e., August 5. That will be your expiration date until you fail to renew. If you are not planning to return until perhaps August 2020, your pass will most likely expire again and need to be renewed. In that case, renewal is not for you.

We let ours expire recently so we can reset the date to one better suited to our travelling schedule. We are going in August this year (when we normally don't go) and will start new passes then to cover the other trips we have planned. Going to cost a few more dollars, but should work better with our schedule

Agree with all PP's. If you are not going again soon, let them expire and get the vouchers to activate later on. The renewal discount is not really saving you much if you are not going again soon.

Our previous AP's expired this past February and we did not renew. Instead, we bought vouchers that we are activating next week. It didn't make sense to "waste" 4 months of an AP when we knew we wouldn't be going again until June.

Our previous APs expired before we could book our FPs. We renewed the APs, and booked our FPs. We didn't activate the FPs till 2 months later. Ours are good for 13 months from the day they were activated, not the day they were purchased.

What are the vouchers your speaking of?

When you order a NEW AP (not an AP "renewal,") if you are not physically AT Walt Disney World you are issued an "AP voucher" (it is actually called an "AP certificate.")
You may or may not be SENT the certificate in the mail, but it can be linked directly to your MDX account.
Later, when you do physically go to WDW, you can take that "AP certificate" (or take your MagicBand, if the certificate is linked in your MDX) to any ticket booth or Guest Relations and have your new AP "activated." Then, when you actually go to a park gate, your AP will start "counting down" it's year of
use at that point.

Unless you got some kind of "special arrangement" you may have one or two things confused
(or I just don't understand your meaning in this post.)
If you RENEWED your AP, it would have retained the exact same anniversary date (expiration date)
as your previous AP (that's what makes it a "renewal.")
That is just an automatic function of buying a "renewal."

If you bought a NEW AP (not renewed the old one,) It would allow FPs to be booked but would not
be activated until such time as you went to WDW and used that AP.

Also, I don't know anything about a "13 month" AP promotion going on (but, I can't keep up everything, so who knows?)
