Renewal/Pass Expiration question

My pass is up to renew now (expires 3/30). I may not be able to get to the parks until end of March. I am off work 3/31 so I can probably go then, but I’ll technically be buying a “new” pass. If your pass expires all the way, do you keep the original card? Or do you get a new one? Do they charge you the $20?

I went 2 months in between mine last year and they had me use the same card.

Due to Galaxy Edge / Star Wars land I let my AP laps for all most a year.
When I went to the ticket booth to upgrade a 3Day hopper with MP on my trip I took my original AP and they used it.

It's up to you if you take your AP for them to use...

The day I upgraded I had already entered DL, so my 3day hopper w/MP had been scanned.
Once I had my AP w/MP and scanned into the parks it showed up in the app too.
For the day I was able to make double MP's. Kind of a nice perk, since it was my last day of the trip.

On the matter of renewal, I never thought I’d even have to consider whether to do so or not. But given the recent crowds — and also a failed relationship with a woman I see at the parks regularly — I’m not 100% that I will renew. At least not now.

I let mine lapse last year then later used a 5-day park hopper and upgraded to a new AP. The CM offered to print me a new pass but I brought my old one and offered to use it again.

If you have the old design, note there is an updated one. I was given the option of a new one or using my old one. I opted for the new one and was allowed to keep my old one as a souvenir. So you might want a new card anyways to get the new design

Ask the CM to check the magnetic strip on the back of your old card. If it works fine, go ahead and use the old card. If the strip is wonky or has been giving you trouble (e.g. at registers for your discount), ask for a new card. There shouldn't be a fee. I've had my old card for quite a while now, but a very nice CM replaced DH's for free because the magnetic strip was so worn.
