My parents and I are searching for a vehicle for myself to drive.
I'm 16 and have had my permit since May 23 05 (when I turned 16) and have been driving LOTS! I'm taking my final drive on March 22, but my parents want me to get my vehicle soon, so I can get used to driving it before I can go all out by myself!
So here's the scoop- we have an Impala, and my older brother has a Sierra. My parents want me to get a somewhat bigger vehicle that they can ask me to use it for traveling and such- or when the 5 of us head out.
I have been looking at a Rendezvous and Saturn VUE. How are they for gas mileage- and for what year?
Do you have any problems with yours? Any specific quirks you like about it?
I've been doing tons of research on many different cars (safety ratings, etc) and I would love some personal opinions!

Any info is very much appreciated. :teeth:

We have a Saturn VUE. My husband drives it. It is very comparble to a sedan BUT.. it is also a 4 cylindar which should be fine for you.

Saturn is a great company.. with a WIDE loyal "family".

I don't think you would be disappointed with it.

I have a 2003 Vue. Mine is a 4 cylinder. I get great gas mileage. The back seat is very roomy. The thing about Saturn is that the body does not get dents. So, if you bump into a mail box or something, you might chip the paint but you won't get a dent.

I was talking to a young lady a while back and her first car is a Saturn. She has had a few bumps (nothing major) and no dents. Not even grocery cart dents.

My suggestion: Test drive them. See which one you like.

I have a Saturn ION Quad Coupe, which I really like. I considered the VUE too. I have a friend and she and her husband BOTH have VUE's, one 4-cyl, one 6-cyl. Obviously, they LOVE theirs! Check out this website:

It's similar to the DIS, except focused on Saturns. I think you'll find lots of helpful information there.

We have a Rendezvous. We love it. We have hauled everything in it and have driven it to Florida several times for vacation. I would get another in heartbeat.
It is easy to get into and out of, the seat is "butt height". It has a nice place under the center console to put your purse in. It is very comfortable to drive. It gets good gas mileage, about 23 mpg overall.

We have an 03 Vue-60K miles on it. 3 trips to Disney, several to Ohio, Chicago, and elsewhere. The ONLY problem we had was a computer failure in which the vehicle was driveable but the dashboard instruments did not work. It was about $400 to repair.

I witnessed my wife scrape one of the red concrete pump protectors at a Speedway which ripped the side molding off of the vehicle. After screaming at her, I took a sponge and literally wiped the red paint off and snapped the molding back in place. There are still 2 small scratches. This would have been a thousand dollar repair in most other vehicles. You could ram 30 grocery carts into the body and never notice it happened.

As for mileage, 26-28 on the highway(actually higher than sticker), around 20-22 in the city.

We think the Vue is a great value considering the price and competition.

My parents had a VUE, they were in an auto accident due to icey roads, it was totaled, they wanted to get another, but found a great deal on the Rendevous, they like it, but wished they had their VUE instead. So, overall, they like they VUE and have both.

My dh used to have a Rendezvous and even though he liked it I hated driving it. It is pretty big and for me there is a huge "blind spot" when trying to back up. Also it gets terrible gas mileage. I think his average was around 18mpg or less!! When he got a truck he wanted me to take the Rendezvous and I refused.

My friend that just got the vue hates it. Not sure why but I would never buy one of those cars anyway.
